Oh well there s no use complcumng He plcked up h1s med ICIHC k1t and ran to the car The ram hadn t let up he noted 1dly After four hours of tedlous and nerxe racklng Clfllflllg he flnally came ln s1ght of the house It loomed up dark ind ghost llke lll the dlstance Whit 1 place to llxe' the doctor thought rlght on the edge of 1 cllff Why no ones there Then he saw the lamp lll the w lndow Runnmg from the car and up the steps he pounded on the heaxy oak door with the old fashloned knocker Gettlng no response he turned the knob md found lt open He went IH The room was dark and a damp musty smell fllled h1s nostrxls Flllmg the room with a flood of llght from h1s ever present flashllght he looked around Nothmg' A surge of anger went through the doctor Probably a pranksters 1dea of a b1g Joke Then remember1ng the lamp he was sure someone maybe upstaxrs was ln need of h1m Forgettmg he was tired the doctor took the stalrs two at a tlme H qurckly spotted a door wlth a th1n ray of llght gleamlng from under It A he flung the door open nothmg IH the way of human but the sound agamst the cllff and the brlsk smell of the salt water as lf lt were a opened wmdow What he saw 1n astomshment As lf the elements acted on a well rehearsed plan the storm subslded and out of the now qulet mght as though from out of '1 play a cltpper shrp majestlcally mlde 1ts way toward the sound greeted hrs ear of the surf poundrng seemed to draw h1m magnet to the partly below made hmm gasp How many mlnutes lt took for the Phantom Cllpper to dock Doctor Whltman wasn t sure but of one thlng he was certam he w as def1n1telv losing hls senses As 1f hrs thought could be felt by the app lrltlon lt melted aw ix Doctor Whltman slowlx made hrs w ly 'max from the WIIIOOVK out of the door and down the stcurs 'and out of the house but as he passed through he had a peculmr sensatnon of someone pattlng hlm kmdlx on the back Hurrxmg now he wa soon lll hx car md drntng qu1cklx tow 1rd town ' 9 . . , , . . , . . . , , , . .
