I .Veniot prophecy In Nav of 1967, I boarded a plane to San Francisco. 1 was enjoying my ride until the stewardess came through and announced that the plane was having engine trouble, and that we had to make a quick landing in Denver. Colorado. I recognized the stewardess as lllaxine Mayne, and she invited me to the Silver Dollar Night Club to have dinner with her that evening. While we were dining, we noticed a couple coming toward our table. lllaxine introduced them as the owners of the club whom we recognized as Dennis Bru- baker and his wife. Sarah Billman. We invited Dennis and Sarah to join us at our table and talk over old times. During our chat we found out that they had eight children. The plane was now ready to leave andl set out once more to reach San Franeisco'. -In :1 few hours I arrived at my destination safe and sound. After all the commotion I was extremely tired and went directly to the hotel. The next morning I was up bright and early ready to spend the day sightseeing. I Went to the nearest rent-a-car agency, where I selected a 1966 convertible for my tour of the city. After driving around for awhile, I heard the shrimp boats had docked and looking for excitement I drove out to the coast. I asked the captain if I might look around the boat and he said he would be glad to show me. I noticed something familiar about him and asked him if he was originally from California. He told me he was from Iowa where he attended Scarsbo ro High School. After graduating, he drifted westward until he reached the West coast. where he took up shrimp fishing. It was then that I asked if he was Freddy Watson. He told me he was and after introducing myself, I left and drove out to see his new ranch style home. At 3:30 I left Freddy and started back to my hotel. I hadn't gone far when my car broke down. I called the ear agency and had them send out :1 mechanic. In a few minutes I noticed a ear coming down the street very fast, careening from one side of the street to the other. He pulled up to where I was standing and jumped out of his ear. The driver was Bill Moore, Jr. He immediately recognized me and asked me to come to his home for dinner and meet his wife, the former Monica Williams, and their three children. After a lovely evening I' returned to the hotel and started packing as I was to go by plane to Hawaii. When the plane landed I found a nice hotel in which to stay for my five day vacation. I took the elevator to the 12th floor. I recognized the girl running the elevator as Barbara Hasley. I asked her how she happened to be in Hawaii and she explained that she had come here on vacation. During her stay someone had stolen her money. Since there was a vacancy at this hotel, she immediately went to work. She told us the work was interesting because of the many tourists and she has been here ever since. I left Barbara, went to my room, and rested until after lunch. When I awoke, it was such a lovely afternoon, I decided to run down to the beach for a swim. I noticed a crowd at the beach and wondered what was going on. I made my way through the crowd to find a group of hula girls entertaining. One of the girls recognized me and came over immediately after the music stopped. She asked if I remembered her, and when I said that I didn't she introduced herself as Peggy Gooch Meredith. We talked with her for awhile and then she took me over to her husband Lyle, who was stretched out under a palm tree. She was just ready to wake him, when a large coconut fell and hit him on the head. He jumped up and said a few words, while Peggy went to call Madam Kapakahi, the witch doctor. A tall, slender woman came out and began to take care of Lyle. She chanted something in another language, and Lyle immediately recovered. We visited with the three of them for awhile and discovered that the witch doctor was none other than Alice Gause. We asked her how she happened to be in that business. She replied that it was her husband's business before he died. Q The next afternoon there was to be a rock and roll session at the Royal Theater which I decided to attend. The M. C. announced that the next performance was to be an imitation of Elvis Presley. Out came a man jumping around and carrying a guitar. He began strumming Paralyzed and finished up with When my Blue Moon Turns to Gold. He immediately reminded me of old school days when Larry Hasley used to do the Elvis. When the rest of the show was over I asked the M. C. where this fellow came from. He told me he used to live in a small town back in Iowa. I immediately recognized him as Larry Hasley and struck up a friendly conversation. He introduced me to his wife, the former Connie Russell, and their five children. After visiting with them I packed my luggage once mo rc, boarded a plane, bought a newspaper, and settled back to relax. At last I was re- turning home tired but happy.
