Well there s that conductor callmg all aboard, all aboard guess I d better board the tram for Texas As I rode along gazmg at the beautxful Texas scenery about fxve mzles from Houston, I saw a large sxgn along the way readmg Speas Cattle Ranch one of the mam attractlons of southern Texas Vxsxtors Welcome Speas Speas, I wonder 1f that could be Wayne Speas I wonder I got off the tram and found myself enter1ng a coffee shop and I couldn t help wondermg about that s1gn You know me they say cur1os1ty kills the cat and I guess It dxd for the next thmg I knew I was r1dmg xn a tax1 headmg for Speas cattle farm After a ten mmute rxde I was surrounded by a number of neat bumldmgs Out of the ranch house came a smxlmg young man and who could lt be but Wayne Speas Yes It was almost unbelewable Wayne mvmted me to spend the nlght and I accepted wholeheartedly Feelmg entxrely refreshed w1th a new day dawnmg and a full stomach I left smxlmg Wayne and h1s l1ttle red ha1red w1fe standmg 1n the door way and contmued my journey As the tram was pullmg out of Houston I was really thankful to have conversed w1th an old classmate and havmg successfully fmxshed my busmess and scenery On the tlurd day of my most enjoyable vacat1on I was str1cken w1th a llght case of mfluenza Due to my convmcmg aunt I was taken to the Arrnanda Commumty Hosp1tal As I was lymg 1n bed envymg those other vacat1on1sts a pleasant vo1ce told me I had a v1s1tor The volce sounded fam1l1ar and as I gazed 1n to my nurse s sm1l1ng face I recognxzed her as Margaret F1gland another schoolmate of Searsboro Hxgh A pleasant half hour of conversat1on wzth Margaret and then much to my surprxse I was re leased from the hosp1ta1 and after saymg Ad1ous to Margaret I went happxly on my way Th1s tune I was headed for Callforma It was a non stop flxght from Tallahassee to Los Angles Only a matter of t1me After I was refreshed and properly dressed for an evemng of enterta1nment I called for a taxx A few mmutes later I heard myself xnstructmg the tax1 dr1ver to take me to the U C L A Mxchxgan State basketball game I arr1ved at the half when the score was 33 to 30 m M1ch1gan State s favor In the f1rst three mlnutes of the th1rd quarter I found I had a dry throat Oh for a coke The crowd was m an uproar and now the score was 43 41 st1ll favormg M1ch1gan State What clever plays the U C L A boys were makmg mn the last in Houston. I was now on my way to Florida. Oh, what wonderful sunshine quarter Bong the fmal bell the fmal score now was 56 53 th1s makmg U C L A the vxctors I had to meet that U C L A coach He s a d1ller I sat quxetly for them to leave so I could meet that coach Fmally I caught a glunpse of a tall blonde who seemmgly was the coach I was seekmg After congratulatmg lnm on the game I recogn1zed the grm Whose should xt be but Roger Tmce s Qu1te a success eh The mam attract1on of the country was now on the Kentucky Derby Horse Races To day I must bet on my horse Natxonal Velvet 1n Kentucky In the heart of the blue grass country LOUISVIIIB I was dnvmg wzth a fnend to the race track when suddenly we were surrounded by honkmg cars and screechmg trucks You guessed lt A traff1c jam W1th the help of a squad of pohcemen the traffmc thmned a tr1fle Then, as I was turnmg to the rlght a large truck, whxch was makmg a U turn to left colhded w1th our Jeep stat1on wagon All persons xnvolved escaped wxth only mmor scratches It would have been qulte a catastrophe but under the clrcumstances, lt wasn t You see the good humored truck dr1ver was another former classmate of Searsboro I-hgh Chuck Adkms A pleasant chat w1th Chuck and I was on the road to the race track only to see Natmonal Velvet take second pr1ze After that narrow escape wmth Chuck Adkms I declded to take out l1fe msurance I preceded to do so at Rlvertan Kentucky As I entered the neat lxttle msurance buxldmg, the recept1on1st told me to enter the bosses off1ce and what to my wondermg eyes d1d I see but a cute l1tt1e blonde takmg notes from a handsome boss She smzlled and as she dxd so I knew at a glance that she was none other than Phyll1s Plate I rece1ved my msurance pol1cy w1th a smxle and havmg renewed old memorxes of Searsboro Hxgh I went once agam on my journey th1s txme home ward bound A pleasant tr1p and I f1nd myself back agamn m Iowa Th1s tune m Des Momes to take care of a small busmess matter As I was walkxng down Fxfth and Walnut I was 111 sorta a daze as to wondermg what I should do next when suddenly OH my achmg corns a baby carnage just ran over my foot As I turned I saw a sm111ng l1ttle lady accompanled by a l1ttle boy w1th extraordmary large feet and small ears Also she was pushmg a baby carnage w1th the cutest httle baby Who was she '7 Well now wouldn t you have guessed 1t'P It was dear Mrs Harold Moore You know the former 11ttle Betty F1sk Well I was mformed that she had a successful marnage and let s hope she ll 11ve happ1ly ever after Home once agaln to fmd Mr and Mrs Schakel and the1r f1ve chxldren st1ll res1d1ng 1n Searsboro A letter from Mr Par1sho tells me that he 15 now retmred and 15 l1v1ng happxly w1th h1s llttle w1.fe m Thornburg If you go to the Great Opera House 1n New York you w1l1 fmd Mrs W1lson mstructor of opera smgers A trxp to Ottumwa Iowa w1ll fmd Mrs McDowell hvmg prosperously w1th her ch1ldren and husband who 15 Presxdent of Round The World Alrlmes And now as I fmd lt neccessary for thxs letter to draw to a close I am overwhelmlngly happy to reveal to you the h1gh11ghts of my tmp and also the suc cesses of our former schoolmates of Searsboro H1gh Smcerely yours Juruor Class of '49 Q . . . .
