Beautiful football weather matched the Western theme of the Homecoming assembly. Royalty was honored with entertainment by various groups of Indians, square dancers, cowgirls, and singers. Beth was crowned by her escorts, Gary Osborne and Scott Roussel during the assembly. Prior to the game, Beth was escorted by her father, Harry Price, and crowned by James W. There were many factors that led to the Lion success, but truly the most important was the outstanding senior leadership. The Lions were fortunate to have 13 dedicated seniors to lead the team. Getting off to a slow start the Lions lost three close games, but showed true determination by coming back and winning six of their last seven games. It was a year in which Searcy held its own against conference foes, while soundly thrashing all area rivals. Included in the team was an offense that was, for the most part, unstoppable, a defense that was like running up against a brick wall, five all-conference players, one, thousand yard back, with another right behind him, a kicker who will carry a string of 16 straight conversion attempts with him into next year, 14 Juniors, 23 Sophomores, and an overall desire to win. In the past, lion teams have been remembered for individuals and one game performances, but in the future, 1973 will be remembered as the year the Lions WON! 100 Modelling GEO KG E WILLIAMS Defensive Coordinator BIRDIE ROGERS “B” Team Backs StaU BOB MADDOX Receivers and Defensive Backs JIM STOVER “B Team Linemen 101 ALAN STOLT Mead Coach CAe 1973 earc f ion Seniors of ‘73’ Managers John EUsberry, Ralph Bennett, Tim King, and David Amholt, (Kneeling) Co-Captains Ken Robbins and Scott Roussel 104 Scott Roussel Quarterback, All-Region Safety Passing—29-70 for 578 yards, IDs. Coach Rogers makes a point during a time-out m sSeadOM 5e«$ume The 1973-74 Lions season was one of injury, illness, and general disappointment. Although the season record was 6-15, it was really much more exciting. Four of the Lions’ losses were to powerhouses Conway, who was undefeated for the season, and Morrilton, who lost only to Conway. Many times the Lions lead throughout the game only to lose in the last quarter or even in the last second. Even in region games, the Lions played better against the region leaders than they did against the teams that crowded the 6AA cellar. Lion fans were provided with perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel when the Lions upset Whitehall and trounced Cabot to end the regular season on a successful note. With these two closing wins used as a momentum, the Lions entered the Region tournament with the hope of finally putting it all together. Another bright spot is that the Lions are a young team and lose only three seniors to graduation. With most of the squad back next year plus several top junior high players, Lion fans have high hopes for next year. cYYlana.Q rA (1 to r) Steve Fraser, Mark Thicksten, and Wayne GosneU 128 Top How: Larry Rebhahn, Jimmy Poor, Mike Noble, Robin Wadley, Butch Gardner, Kenny McCulloch, Paul Smith, David Uth, Mike Liles, David Amholt (manager).
