SOCIAL STUDIES Mr. Davis Webb Mr. Carl Steward History Government Government Problems of Democrary World Geography A year is remembered for its many memorable happenings and we have gained many things this year that will help us to achieve the all-important role of future citi- zens. The major aim of Social Studies courses is the training and developing of intel- ligent, responsible citizens. A world history course furnishes students information on history of world cultures and gives understanding of modern world problems. In American history emphasis is placed on a knowledge of Americanism by teaching how America's democratic ideal of free society has influenced her history at home and abroad. Government stresses the importance of being a participating and well-in- formed citizen. The political system of the United States is studied in detail. A course in problems of democracy teaches that even today there is much that we can do in helping keep our country strong. Mr. Fox takes time out to go over a test that he has recently given.

SPEECH and DRAMATICS Gone is the time in which only those with great talent were trained in speech. Because of the wide spread media, radio and television, oral communication is additionally important for every person. The Speech Department endeavors to meet this need by offering classes in speech funda- mentals, public speaking, drama, and speech- drama. Voice improvement, correct pronun- ciation, debate and oratory, and theater arts are all covered in the courses. Mrs. Robert Bell Speech Dramatics Speech students study the quality of the voice by listening to themselves by means of a tape recorder.
