HOME ECONOMICS To be a homemaker is the de- sire of most girls, but there is more to being a good homemaker and mother than just marriage, and for this reason courses in Home Eco- nomics, for girls, and Family Liv- ing, for boys, are offered in Searcy High School. In these classes students not only learn food prep- artion and creative sewing but they also learn child care and develop- ment, home management and planning, and personal improvement and understanding. The home economics students learn the art of table manners and courtesy. Mrs. Charlotte Morgan Home Economics Learning to sew is just one of the many things Home Economic students learn throughout the year.

ENGLISH Mrs. Helen Sutherlin English The ability to communicate, from day to day, from year to year, binds the people of our world together. In English classes we are given the oppor- tunity to improve our grammar, increase and utilize our vocabulary, and appreciate and understand the literature of the different periods of history. To go beyond these basic requirements of the department, so we can have a more versatile edu- cation, we must strive toward the comprehension of ideas, organization of thoughts, and the ability to express one's self by means of the written and spoken word. But the knowledge gained in class would be of no use to youth unless it instilled the desire for adaption to everyday living, because every day spent in Eng- lish class will determine greatly the situation of the world tomorrow.
