QILRCI SIARUY a 1 T W' ' c V m The l9n5 edition of the Lions finished their grid season with four wins, five loses and one tieg but the score they made in the 'minds of their fellow students and backers was much more impressive then their win-lose record. Outstanding among the team's characteristics was fairness and clean play. The 'LS L i o n s proved very well the old 'adage--it takes eleven men to make a football team. The grid season is better reviewed by taking each game individually and giving the high- lights. The campaign began on a liot September Friday night in Jonesboro. The hot weather and the razzle-dazzle style of play proved to be too much for the Lions who at the beginning of the game thought that the Hurricane had subsided in- to a breeze but at the end of the first half found tfat it has been a pretty stiff breeze af- ter all. Next a series of rockets hit Searcy in the form of the Catholic High boys who had the NTU formation down pat. The Lions, who knew that Stuttgart is al- ways tough, again were confident of victory the first few moments of play but fought four quart- ers with disappointment of a tie for the ending. The Lions' first taste of victory came at the expense of the Newport Greyhounds who short- passed enough to keep the game interesting but left the Searcy boys confident of a successful season all the rest of the year. . Their confidence was further strengthened by their outscoring the tricky Paragould Bulldogs. As the game with Batesville was nearing the end, the entire group of Searcy football enthu- siasts were sure that the Lions would cross that goal line that they were near so long. But the game ended with the Lions on the short end of the score and the boosters hoarse.q Next came operations amphibious as the Lions pushed a floating ball over to out-score by one point a fighting, tricky bunch of England lads who Knew where the one dry spot on the field was. Subiaco nosed out the Lions in one of the many tight games of the season 7-6. Conway did not give the Lions much of a game as the Searcy team ran roughshod. Wynne won, but they were out-charged, out- played, and scared that they were losing their first game of the season. So ended a season of hard, clean playing by a bunch of boys who wanted an undefeated season in score and had one in confidence, backed by fellow students and town-folk and by the reale ization of the fact that it is not whether you win or lose but how you play the game, u-. 1, U.,-H-'.'.','.'.'. jf, .'
