TODAY, modern students learn methods of adjusting to society through social studies. This department pro- vides courses in such areas as people, history, economics, government, and the future. FOREIG LANGUA GE THE SEAMAN foreign language department offers as much as four years of Spanish and three years of French. Miss Barbara Medford and Miss Frances Miley, instructors, used the new oral approach to teach- ing languages, giving the students X5 S' experience at both hearing and speak- ing words of a new language. To broaden the interest and experience in foreign languages, third and fourth year Spanish classes and third year French classes made special trips to movies, art museums, and restaurants in Kansas City and Topeka. The foreign language department also sponsored an annual language banquet for students having com- pleted one year of a foreign language. The dinner of French and Spanish foods WHS followed with 3. pI'OgI'Ell'1'1 of FI'GI1Cl'1 Miss Medford watches as Barbara Wenger and David and Spanish skits 0 Mazer struggle with their French dialogue.
