DRIVING AGGRESSIVELY from Coach Bernie Bierman's rugged single-wing forma- tion, the Seaman football squad won five games, lost two, and tied one, to share again the Jay- hawk League championship. With spirit and determination, the gridders racked up an impressive 2,278 yards gained through rushing for the season, aptly illustrat- ing the effectiveness of Coach Bierman's vigor- ous, well-planned ground attack. Displaying considerable skill in seeking weaknesses in the opponent's defense, the Vikings made teamwork pay off by also winning the. mythical city championship. Coach Gerald Haney's smooth- working Vikings rolled to one of the best years in recent Seaman basketball history. Featuring smooth ball handling, ex- pert outside shooting, and an air-tight defense that held I6 opponents to 46 points or under, the polished and talented Vikes ended the season with third place in the Regional Tournament at Effingham and a I7 won, 5 lost record. Six seniors, Dick Brovlm, Wayne Trickel, Karl Kessinger, Jim Sessions, Jim Feyh, and John Milliken, will be sorely missed when next year's whistle blows for the next season to begin. As the buses headed for Wichita, those who weren't thinking about sleep were anticipating breakfast at the Turnpike restaurant. With renewed spirits and full stomachs, they arrived in Wichita, ready for a day of fun and frolic. Beechcraft was one of the highlights of the day. After a guided tour of the plant, they returned to the buses and proceeded to the bus station. Everyone went uptown for lunch and an afternoon of various activities. At 6:00 P.M. all boarded the buses and headed for Joyland Amusement Park. l0:30 P.M. ls it time to go already? was suddenly heard from all sides, as the Seniors piled into the buses at the end of a perfect Sneak Day. 72 F' rs fl rx 3 f rx fx I1 ai Bxgfvmdf' v-wg .l K if 1 af s. It started in the fall of '54, lt started with 83 eager freshmen confronting mazes of unknown faces, lt started with new studies, new teachers, and strange classrooms. It started with President, Gary Moden, Vice-President, Verna Peterson, Secretary, Jim Andrews, and Treasurer, Mary Jo Deurmyer as class officers, with Miss Marvel Cox and Mr. Marvin Smith as sponsors. The year was filled with moving from the old building to the new, football games, assemblies, all school parties, a class picnic, and a class skating party. President, Maylene Chance, Vice-President, Mary Spangler, Secretary, Margaret MacArthur, and Treasurer, Patsy Hammond led their class of 79 sophomores as they enioyed a successful football season, a class Halloween party, and a picnic at Lake Shawnee. Junior-Senior Prom, choosing class rings, a class dance, and a picnic at Lake Shawnee were highlights of the Junior year. The officers of the 7l-member Junior class were Wayne Trickel, President, John Milliken, Vice-President, Nancy Corn, Secretary, and Karl Kessinger, Treasurer, with Mrs. Hazel Gooch and Mr. Marvin Smith as sponsors. Senior rings, winning football, basketball, and track teams, school dances, assemblies, parties, and the Junior-Senior Prom were appreciated even more because of the knowledge that they would be the last, for at last, the eager freshmen were poised seniors. President, Wayne Trickel, Vice-President, Gary Brewer, Secretary, Janice Browning, and Treasurer, Jim Feyh, with the rassistance of Miss Dora Wilson and Mr. Bruce Frederick, planned and directed many activities during the busy year. lt ended with a fun-filled sneak day in Wichita, the last class picnic, and honor assembly. lt ended with Baccalaureate, where the realization of our future responsibilities became apparent. lt ended May 23 when 66 seniors in white caps and gowns marched through the daisy chain to the strains of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance. lt ended with the hope that we might reflect through our life in the community, the nation, and the world, the training that we have received as Seaman students.
