The concrete block-steel-brick structure houses completely the industrial arts and vocational agriculture departments. Each department has its own class- rooms, offices, lockers, work rooms, and toilet facilities. The modern designs of architecture are used with windows and glass com- prising nearly half of the walls, which permits an extensive use of natural lighting. Approximate con- struction cost was 51377, OOO. Excava tion began in the early fall with the Open House and Dedication on May 3, 1956. It is the pur- pose of the 1956 SEAMAN to be that record, and to let its pages re- live every outstanding moment we have experienced in our classes, our club meetings and activities, and our social events. Those of us who have been responsible for this yearbook are proud to present a continuation of the new design introduced last year, and even more pleased to report an increase of pages, from ninety-six to one-hundred. It is the hope of the Yearbook Staff that for every reader of our book, we have definitely pictured the year 4 746 N ' M fr-1 Business Manager Marilyn Le vert and Editor-in -Chief Doris Glasgow discuss production problems with Mr. en Frederick, Advisor. I n tf.J Om am- em feadew MORNING As if starting a brand new day, sixty-five young Seamanites em- barked upon the experience of our lives--high school! In the early hours of this first forenoon, 1952, we chose Carol Ann Wendel, president, Larry Brady, vice-presidentg Marilyn Levett, secretaryg and Kenneth Falley, treasurer, to be our official guides. Two class skating parties provided loads of fun, and lots of bruises! A picnic at Gage park was a terrific ending for a terrific year, thanks to Miss Cox and Mr. Smith, our sponsors. I NOON Just as noon marks mid-day, our Sophomore year marked the mid- point of our hi h school career! President Mary Lou Frey, vice-presi- dent Larry Hogfman, secretary Wade Halley, and treasurer Ernestine Adams were elected from our class of sixty-three. Our wild and woolly hay-rack ride and weiner roast will not soon be forgotten! Mr. Bierman and Mr. Rorabaugh sponsored us as we finished our second year at Seaman with a class picnic and ball game at Gage Park. EVENING Our anxiously anticipated Junior year finally arrived, just like an excitingl evening planned months in advance! We felt we were achieving worthw ile experiences in both schoolwork and activities: and we elect- ed the following officers to prove it: Larry Brady, presidentg Marilyn Levett, vice-presidentg Carol Ann Wendel, secretary, and Larry Hoffman, treasurer. There were sixty-eight members in our class, which was , the largest number we ever had to our credit. Moving day from the old Seaman building to the new was a big event and a surprising combina- tion of work with fun. We had two history class picnics at Mr. Emrich's farmg and our Junior party, a dress-up sock hop, was held in the study hall. Mrs. Gooch and Mr. Wahl, class sponsors, were really a big help in making the Junior-Senior Prom, as well as the whole year, very successful. Our class picnic at Lake Shawnee was the perfect ending for the year. MIDNIGHT Our Senior year was truly the 'end of a perfect day! An all-male cast of officers steered the fifty-nine of us through an action-filled year. President Larry Hoffman, vice- resident Bill Meacham, secretary Larry Brady, and treasurer Ricgard Kingman were our 1956 leaders ' and our sponsors were Miss Wilson and Mr. Frederick. Our beautiful Senior rings arrived in September, and we were happy to know that we were the first class to order them as Juniors so that we could wear them our whole Senior year. Rainy weather didn't hinder our Play Day--much! After being nearly soaked with rain, it didn't make much difference to be thrown into Lake Wabaunsee! Our caps and gowns and announcements were ordered, we took several guidance, business, and college entrance tests, and we began to think a little harder about bringing our grades up a little higher! The Juniors did a fine job in presenting the Junior-Sen- ior Prom at the Jayhawk Roof Garden and their Wishing Well theme made us feel rather sentimental. Our Baccalaureate service was held in the Auditorium and was very impressive. Our last picnic as a class, held at Lake Shawnee, provided lots of fun. As we marched out over the football field to our Commencement exercises, the beauty of the decorations and of the niglht helped us to understand that as midnight ends one day and begins t e next, we, too, were finishing one lovely part of our lives, but were beginning some- thing new. The Graduates' Ball in the gymnasium climaxed our final year, and we knew then that our day was finished. 14 LARRY BRADY iiiif..
