(ton tents FOREWORD DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION FACULTY SENIORS FAVORITES JUNIORS SOPHOMORES FRESHMEN ELEMENTARY ORGANIZATIONS ATHLETICS ADVERTISEMENTS As we gradually come to a close of this, another wonderful year at Seagrove High, we pause for a moment to look back on some of the most precious moments spent here. There were the ballgames, trips here and yonder which were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, the Junior-Senior Banquet, the Junior and Senior plays, the excite¬ ment caused by the crowning of kings and queens at Halloween, and many more delightful activities. These, along with the help of our teachers, and the cooperation of our fellow students, have helped to make our years here at Seagrove more enjoyable. Therefore, we hope that we have herein captured some of these moments - that they may continue to live for you through all the golden years ahead. As we prepare to dedicate this, our 1960 high school annual, our thoughts turn to one who, perhaps, more than others, has played a leading role in our lives here at Seagrove High. In troubled and confused hours, he understood; in our happier mo¬ ments, he praised and encouraged. And now, in dedication, we, with sin¬ cere appreciation, are honored to dedicate this annual to Mr. Fred Lovin. J J rmcipaf s JKessaae MR. J. R, BARKER Principal ylcfministraiion MR. J. R. C ass 3 fisioru Just four short years ago, we the class of ' 60 entered High School. With our large class of 66 we were divided. Miss Bronna Deaton was the homeroom teacher for the girls, and Mr. E. R. Wallace was the homeroom teacher for the boys. As freshmen we chose class officers. They were; Leverette Strider, President; Darrell Johnson, Vice President; Hilton Byrd, Secretary; Betty Luther, Treasurer; Taft Spencer and Joann Brown, reporters. We had a few of our classmates to go out for sports. The only girl on the basketball team was Virginia Beck. The boys were: Leverette Strider, Hilton Byrd and David Clark. The girls on the cheerleading squad were Linda Hill and Joann Brown. Boys ' basketball managers were: Charles Luther, Sherman Richardson and Edward Cornelison. Then suddenly we were sophomores with 64 in our class. Again we were divided having Mr. and Mrs. Eli Smith as our homeroom teachers. Our class officers were: Leverette Strider, President; Kay Asbill, Vice President; Linda Hill, Secretary; Sherman Richardson, Treasurer; Susie Kearns and Charles Luther, Reporters. The girls on the basketball team were: Margaret Auman, Brenda Beck, Virginia Beck and Sadie Callahan. The only girl on the cheerleading squad was Linda Hill. The boys on the basketball team were: Hilton Byrd, Sherman Richard¬ son, Edward Cornelison, Leverette Strider and David Clark. The boys ' basketball manager was Charles Luther. Juniors! This was to be a big year. We were divided into two classes having Mrs. Hubert Auman and Mr. Herbert Harton as our homeroom teachers. Our class officers were: Leverette Strider, President; Edward Cornelison, Vice President; Susie Kearns, Secretary; David Clark, Treasurer; Betty Luther and Hilton Byrd, Reporters. Girls on the basketball team were: Margaret Auman, Brenda Beck, Virginia Beck and Sadie Callahan. Our marshals were: Sherman Richardson, Chief; Joann Brown, Carolyn Graves, Judy Hancock, Maxine Deaton, Kay Asbill and Susie Kearns. Thirteen members of our class were received into the Beta Club. As a means of raising money for the Junior-Senior Banquet Prom we sold magazines and presented our class play, Tumblin Creek. Then in a short time our Junior year was gone and thoughts were turned forward to¬ ward our Senior year. Seniors! We never thought three years could pass so fast. As we started our final year we were looking forward to the day of diplomas and graduation. We had begun with a large class but now had only 45 members. Again we were divided with Mrs. Hubert Auman and Mr. Hugh Whitley as our homeroom teachers. Our class officers were: Leverette Strider, President; Ed¬ ward Cornelison, Vice President; Susie Kearns, Secretary; Betty Luther and Ray Luck, Reporters. Ray Luck Class Historian THE BELLS OF SEAGROVE HIGH The bells of Seagrove High Have rung their last for me; And all that ' s left for future years Are lonesome memories. The sights and sounds of Seagrove Are gone, but still they ' re clear! For time must pass, and in its path, Take friends that were so dear. But, still, someday, I will return To this place - so far - yet near - Just to hear the bells of Seagrove Ring once more in my ear. The memories will flourish And solemn thoughts flow ' free Of good old Seagrove High School And what she ' s meant to me! Ray Luck MOTTO Of all human inventions the worst is an excuse. COLORS Blue and White FLOWER Red Rosebud CL ass J J ropiiec(j This is a very special day in the great city of Seagrove! It is the biggest thing that ever hit Seagrove: Place: Seagrove Colosseum Occasion: Reunion of the Class of ' 60 Time: - 1975 - fifteen years later. Some of the guests are beginning to arrive. Yes, here comes Brenda Beck. While in school she was Miss Se-Hi, now she is running for Miss America. With her is the owner of Stedman Manu¬ facturing Company, Charles Luther. Now comes our next occupant of the White House, Sherman Richardson. Well, who could that be? Oh, it ' s Vernice Leach, the first known woman bus driver for the Seagrove-Erect Express, owned by Leo Brower; with her she brought a bus load of the gang. There is Margaret Auman who is the owner of that new dress shop downtown with her designer, Lydia Venable. Virginia Beck who gave up ball and is now coaching her own little red heads; Sadie Callahan, who is now working for T.W. A. And that famous piano player, Lanson Cox, with his pet cat. There ' s Ronald Shaw still looking for all the books he lost in school. Linda Voncannon finally worked her wa y into the Air Force as a nurse, I see. Another car just arrived; it ' s Judy Baker, who finally made it to Hollywood with her acting ability. Here comes Linda Hill who works for her husband; and for money. It ' s the teacher of Seagrove High, Elmyra Williams who took Mrs. Auman ' s place in World Geography; Linda Tucker finally made it into the Home Economic Department, we observe! And here is Doris Wilson, secretary to the principal of old Se-Hi. I would say that this looks like it is going to be a real reunion! Some one just came in - Kay Asbill, just out of college and who is going to be secretary to the new president. What is that? A wrecker? Why, it is the owner of the new Sinclair Station in Whynot, Darrell Johnson. He tells us that Ruby Garner and Sarah Luther are married, living in Pisgah. Well, what do we have here? America’s greatest scientist, Ray Luck. Here comes Susie Kearns, married but working hard writing articles for Seagrove Times. Something just passed by going too fast to stop it. Oh, it is backing up and we see Hilton Byrd, the latest win¬ ner of the Southern 500, in his low-flying Chevy. Here comes J. C. Voncannon - he finally got Sidney ' s job as county mechanic.
