611155 History Our class entered High School the fall of 1952. With our large class of 82 we had to be divided. Mrs. Walker Derr was the homeroom teacher for the girls and Mr. James Leonard was homeroom teacher for the boys. As Freshmen we chose as our class officers: Paul Merritt, President: Peggy Latham, Vice President: Merle Bowman, Secretary and Reporter: Tommy Marsh, Treasurer. The girls on the basketball team were: Diana Williamson, Juanita Bennett, Ader Callahan, Venar Callahan, Lottie Hunter, Barbara Delk, Janice Brower, and Frances McNeill. The boys were: Cline Brown, C. E. Byrd, Leo Hinesley, and Dalton Auman, The boys on the Football team were: Tommy Marsh, C. E. Byrd, Charles Kennedy, and Billy Beane Sophomores! We began our sophomore year with 68 in the class. Mrs. Wade Harris was the homeroom teacher for the girls and Mr. James Swiggett was the homeroom teacher for the boys. Our class officers were: Tommy Marsh, President: Betty Harrison, Vice President: Lottie Hunter, Secretary: Charles Kennedy, Treasurer: Merle Bowman, Reporter. The girls on the Basketball team were: Ader Callahan, Venar Callahan, Diana Williamson, Juanita Bennett, Janice Brower, Lottie Hunter, and Frances -McNeill. The boys were: Cline Brown, C. E. Byrd, Dalton Auman, and Leo Hinesley. Juniors! As Juniors we were proud to have Mr. Albert Dunning as our homeroom teacher. Our class officers were: Tommy Marsh, President: Paul Merritt, Vice Presi- dent: Venar Callahan, Secretary: Gary Auman, Treasurer: Shurby Spencer and Cline Brown, Reporters. The girls on the Basketball team were: Lottie Hunter, Frances Mc- Neill, Diana Williamson, and Venar Callahan. The boys were: Cline Brown, C. E. Byrd, Dalton Auman, Leo Hinesley, and Clio Blanton. Twelve members received bids into the Beta Club. They were: Peggy Latham, Betty Harrison, Venar Callahan, Merle Bowman, Bernice Chriscoe, Thelma Harvel, Lottie Hunter, Max Caudill, Cline Brown, Gary Auman, Jack Sugg, and Charles Kennedy. As means of raising money for the Junior-Senior Banquet we sold magazines and presented as our class play, No Bride for the Groom. Within a few short months our Junior Year was gone and we were looking forward to our Senior Year. Seniors! How had time passed so quickly? Only three short years ago the Class of '57 entered high school. We began with the large number of 82 in our Freshman Class but ended up with only 38 seniors. Everyone was looking forward to his diploma and graduation. Our class was divided once again with Miss Kathleen Alexander and Mr. Guy B. Funderburk as our homeroom teachers. Our class officers were: Paul Merritt, President: Lottie Hunter, Vice President: Betty Harrison, Secretary: Merle Bowman, Treasurer: Peggy Latham and Charles Kennedy, Reporters.
