CLASS HISTORY In the fall of l95l, there were fifty-tive students, who entered high school. We were a little timid at first, but after much confusion, we settled down to work. As Freshmen we chose for class officers: Maxton McNeill, president, Carroll Comer, vice-president, Ro- zine Hurley, secretary, and James McNeill, treasurer. Since the class was large, it was divided. Mrs. Walker Woodly Derr taking the girls and Mr. Edward Bizzell, Jr., the boys. We visited Chapel Hill during our first year. The girls on the basketball team were: Mattie Simmons, Jane Ashburn, Margaret Wright, and Mildred Graves. The boys were: Raiford Brown, Carroll Comer, Wesley Freeman, Maxton McNeill, and Garland Hall. The boys who played baseball were: Harold Thomp- son, Thomas Rose, Maxton McNeill, James McNeill, and Garland Hall. With some hard work, along with some fun, we bid the title Freshmen good-bye and looked toward our Sophomore year. Sophomoresl Now we had really become a part of high school. Again this year our class was divided. Mrs. Wade Harris was the homeroom teacher for the girls and Mr. T. W. Parker, the boys. The officers for our Sophomore Class were: Jimmy Kemp, president, Carroll Comer, vice-president, Rozine Hurley, secre- tary, and Bobby Bray, treasurer. The boys on the bas- ketball team were: Raiford Brown., Carroll Comer, Har- vey Evans, Wesley Freeman, Winfred Brown, Garland Hall, Maxton McNeill, and Thomas Rose. The boys on the baseball team were: Thomas Rose, Harold Thomp- son, Maxton McNeill, and Garland Hall. The boys on the football team were: Jimmy Kemp and Fred Marsh. The girls on the basketball team were: Jane Ashburn, Hilda Marley, Nancy Spencer and Mildred Graves. Only too soon we had bid the title Sophomore good-bye and looked toward our Junior year. Juniors! And did that sound grown-up. We were very happy and fortunate to have Mrs. J. C. Hough as our homeroom teacher. Our class officers were: Jimmy Kemp, president, Horace Luther, vice-president, Grace Yow, secretary, Raiford Brown, treasurer, and Peggy Brittain, reporter. The boys who played football were: Jimmy Kemp and Fred Marsh. The baseball players were: Harold Thompson, Donald Smith, Thomas Rose, Maxton McNeill, and Jimmy Kemp. The boys on the basketball team were: Raiford Brown, Carroll Comer, Wesley Freeman, Donald Smith, and Maxton McNeill. The girls were: Hilda Marley and Nancy Spencer. In order to raise money for the Junior-Senior Banquet, we sold magazines, and presented as our play, They Gave Him A Co-ed. We held the banquet in April. This year nine members received bids to the Beta Club. They were: Betty Baker, Raiford Brown, Mae Caudill, Jimmy Kemp, Shelby Luck, Horace Luther, Hilda Marley, Bryce Russell and Rebecca Thompson. Within a few short months we had bid our Junior year good-bye and looked toward our last year of high school, our senior year. Seniors! Our last year of high school! How could we have reached the top so soon? We were quite a smaller group than when we first reached high school, but we had gained a great deal of knowledge. This year we have thirty-two members in our class. For class officers we chose: Jimmy Kemp, president, Rebecca Thompson, vice-president, Raiford Brown, secretary, Re- becca Hedgepeth, treasurer, and Peggy Brittain, re- porter. We were very glad to have Miss lnez Wanna- maker as our homeroom teacher and sponsor. Again this year four members of our class received bids to the Beta Club, They were: Peggy Brittain, Rozine Hurley, Grace Yow, and Norma Hamilton. The only girl onthe basketball team is Rebecca Hedgepeth, The boys were: Raiford Brown, Carroll Comer, Wesley Freeman, Max- ton McNeill, Donald Smith, and Harold Thompson. The boys who played football during the senior year were: Fred Marsh, Jimmy Kemp, Harold Thompson, Wesley Freeman, and Thomas Rose. Our class play was Aaron Slick From Punkin Crick. Our class night program was One Foot On Earth. As we think of leaving, we would like to stop and thank each teacher for his understanding, encourage- ment and patience. We were a little sad when we thought of leaving our many friends, teachers, and dear ole Seagrove High. We knew that we had spent some of the happiest and best years of our lives there, but as we look out into the future, we pray to God, that we will find great and successful lives. CLASS PROPHECY On the day of May 23, I965, the editor of the Sea- grove Daily, Maxton McNeill assigned me, Rebecca Thompson, his reporter, to find the location and the vocation of the members of the class of Se-Hi of l955. The job was naturally hard, for so many had gone dif- ferent ways, but I finally found that: Betty Baker is a dramatics teacher for the Chapel Hill Playmakers. She writes plays during her spare time. lf you have been to Appalachian College you will meet the new dean, none other than Peggy Brittain. She is also head of the English Department. Raiford Brown is the owner of the largest beauty salon in New York City. He is one of his best customers. Winfred Brown is directing the Firestone Orchestra and he is playing a iew's harp during his spare time. Mae Caudill is a wonderful housekeeper. l don't see how she does it with so many children running around. Elsie Cole is now working in the Chemical labora- tory in Seagrove. She is also married and is living in a marble house, which she designed herself. Carroll Comer is a Greyhound bus driver and is managing a big cattle ranch at Erect Plantation. lrma Jean Cox is the president of the largest bank in Chicago. Kermit Craven is head of a Hardware Company at Brower. He says that he's not selling rolling pins anymore but he had a large supply of can openers for brides. Wesley Freeman is going to defend his title, Cham- pion of the World, in Madison Square Garden this spring. Ernest Gatlin is test driving the new Mercurys in the Pan American World Race. Garland Hall is now drawing for the All-American Comedy Strip Company. All that he had to do is look into a mirror and draw what he sees. Norma Hamilton has finally succeeded in being president of the United States. April's issue of the life magazine disappeared fast on the newsstand, but no wonder, our own Rebecca Hedgepeth was on the cover. She is a model for the New York Designers. Who is the new dentist in town? She is none other than Rozine Hurley. Everyone is buying tickets for the famous All- American Wrestling Match, featuring champion, .limmy Kemp, and the famous Swedish Angel. l'm assured that this will be a good match. Estelle Kennedy, as you know, attended Wake Forest College. She is on the faculty now. Harold Kizer is a multi-millionaire chicken raiser and will probably someday surprise the entire world of chickens. Shelby Luck is the head nurse at Duke Hospital She hasn't lost a patient. Horace Luther is now a professor in Economics He is studying for a higher degree. Fred Marsh is driving for Jack COChrian's World Hell Drivers. He is one of the top men in this field. Shirley Presnell is one of Greensboro's best Beauty Experts. Janice Russell is going to Hollywood and she will give other actresses competition. She will be a great success in the new fill-ovision. Bryce Russell is one of the top scientists of today lt is said that he is a wizard and can split an atom to the Nth degree. Donald Smith will replace Mr. Parker as agricul ture teacher at Seagrove High School. He plans to in crease the yield per acre of tobacco in Randolph County. Nancy Spencer is ci professional wrestler and .ludo teacher at Seagrove High School. She is really getting the girls in shape. Harold Thompson is now pitching baseball in the maior leagues. He was voted top pitcher for the past year. Everett Walker is driving in the hot-rod race across the Nevada flats.
