Some may fall by the way, yet others, striving and looking ever onward, will reach this ultimate end. There are many roads approaching our various desires, some longer, more winding and containing more obstacles than others. But, in the end, may we all have chosen the perfect one to lead us ever forward and upward to the peak of success. ln the l949 Se-Hi we have undertaken to show the many and various phases of school life which have encouraged us and have pointed out the path we shall take as this journey commences. 2 aibecbca fion MISS MARGARET WALTON REV. WALTER N. YOUNT To Miss Walton, who has been so kind and patient in aiding us to publish this annual, and to Mr. Yount, who, with much effort and understand- ing, has so faithfully stood by us during our four years in high school, we take pleasure in dedicating this, the l949 edition of the Se-Hi. After much confusion we finally settled down to work with Mr. W. E. Williams as our leader. lt took us sometime to get accustomed to high school, but we learned to like it more and more. Before long we were in step with the other high school students-many of our classmates being chosen to play on the basketball teams. Soon after we had finished our mid-term exams, everyone was shocked by the sudden death of our homeroom teacher, Mr. Williams. Then Mrs. George DeLaughter-took. charge of the class for the remainder of our freshman year. J The summer passed quickly and soon we were back in school again. But not to be looked upon as lowly freshmen, because we had gone a step further and acquired the title sophomore We learned that Mrs. Vellon Craven would direct our class this year. Because of high scholarship and outstanding character, several members of our class received bids to the Beta Club, Basketball letters were awarded to some of the class members before the year was over. Another special event was our trip to Chimney Rock. Since few classes go on trips before their Junior years, we felt that we had acquired something. Everyone worked hard and before anyone realized it school had again come to a close. Juniorsl-and did that sound grown-up. Only one more year of the long climb before we would graduate. Practically all of the high school faculty were new this year, even a new principal. Our class was met by Miss Clarice Hoover, and we started to work right away. The building being crowded, we did not accomplish much at first, but as soon as we were settled in the new building we ordered our class rings. Everyone was so excited we could hardly wait until they came. With the money we earned from the sale of magazines and our Junior play, we entertained the Seniors with a formal banquet at the Community Center in Robbins. This being the first banquet most of us had attended, we were very excited and everyone seemed to have a good time. Since we had enjoyed this year so much, we were very sorry to see it end, but with much effort we passed on to our final year. Because of the polio epidemic, school was delayed this year, and we could hardly wait until September 9th to see our classmates. When the opening did come, we found that many new tasks were placed before us. One of the most important was the editing of the Se-l-li. Under the direc- tion of Miss Margaret Walton, our homeroom teacher, we began our work on it immediately. The publishing of the school paper also fell chiefly upon the Senior Beta members. Most of the boys drove buses and some of the class members were on the basketball team. Our trip to the state fair, Senior play, and Junior- Senior banquet were also opportunities which we all enjoyed. And now, although we have had many good times here, we must journey on in our different ways. But in parting we pause to thank our teachers, parents, and fellow schoolmates, who have, with endless effort, encouraged us on to this great moment. Historian, Lula Mae Bowman 9 Ebfalft 'Mi Ctlfl iifanieflf We, the Senior Class of nineteen hundred and torty- nine, in the town of Seagrove, the county of Randolph, and the state of North Carolina, being of sound mindl?l and realizing the certainty of gradua- tionl??l, do hereby make, declare, and publish this, our last will and testament. We, the Senior Class of nineteen hundred and forty- nine, do hereby set our hands and seal to this, our last will and testament, this, the twenty-seventh day of May, nineteen hundred and forty-nine. Compiled by- Helen Dickinson l-lenry Ritter C155 p 0l0AQCy Seagrove, North Carolina July 4, l959 Dear Mr. Dewar: Today as I thumbed through the pages of an old Se Hi published ten years ago, I noticed a picture of you along with the members of the Senior Class. Seeing it, I remembered that you were once our prin- cipal and I thought perhaps you would like to know what had become of the class of '49, We used to tease Faydean so much about her hope chest. Well, all those things she was making while in high school are coming in handy now for her and Arden's new home. Paige is a professor at Elon College teaching along with her future husband lwe hopel, Jimmie. Well, it looks as though the class of '49 has a stenographer in the group. Ruby Mae is making loads of money working for the Ferman Cole lndustry. Oh, did you see June Morris' picture in the paper for getting on the All-American Basketball Team? He's really quite a player. Seagrove is getting to be quite a place now. lt has grown so much that it is combined with Asheboro and Ulah. This makes Ralph have more territory for his buses to run, since he has organized a New 'Round About Town Bus Unit. Bryce, who was always tearing things apart when we were in high school, has finally learned the puzzle of putting them back together and is employed by Ralph. Do you remember the town below Seagrove called Robbins, where we got several ads to go in the annual? They have a drug store, and it really has been pros- pering lately since the pharmacist's new wife took over the management. Most of you know her, Mrs. D. R. Nall, the former Blanche Auman. And have you noticed, Mr. Dewar, there's a beauti- ful new farm house with a green lawn near Erect? The sign in front of the house reads Dickinson and Brown Chicken Farm. Cruess who was sitting there on the porch the other .day-Helen Dickinson and Arlie Brownl Arlie has finally built that chicken farm that he dreamed about for Helen and him. Fairie is doing very well working in the new hospital at Seagrove as head supervisor to that good looking new doctor. We've heard that red-headed girls always make the best nurses, so Cloyce Lane has gone into the right business. You probably already know that Rev. Henry Ritter and his recent bride have moved into the parsonage at Antioch Church, where he got his start, acting as Sunday School Superintendent when he graduated with us. It seems as if our class believes in nursing, we overlooked the fact that we have another nurse in the group, Martha. Fairie and Cloyce Lane are going to have a little competition from her. Garland Cole, the new owner of the White House Grill, has moved it near Seagrove and changed the name to Paradise Inn. Margie has finally learned to cook and wash dishes, but wait a minuteg we had better ask Johnny before we say she can cook. A new beauty salon has been opened, called The Make-You-Pretty Salon, and guess who the owner is -Marie Hogan. Richard Graves has taken up Red Skelton's habits, going from house to house selling Fuller Brushes. By the way, did you know the local airport has a new hostess, Thelma? Her destination is the pilot's cabin to see that good looking pilot, Mac. The President heard about Lula Mae's good work and sent her a telegram from Washington, asking her to be his private secretary. She hasn't accepted yet. Recil has taken over his father's old job as post- master at Seagrove. Mr. Dewar, if you are ever around Seagrove, drop in to see any of the class. We would be very happy to see you. Cordially, Prophetess: Evelyn King Prophet: Recil Kearns P.S. Do you remember how we used to tease Evelyn about her boy friends? She is still using her charm to dazzle all the young men in her path, hoping one day to meet her one and only. Recil W iw in img pffhmi Best l-00kl g I-alles?
