THEODORE TCHACK We of the Senior Class know him as an out- standing English teacher. Perhaps some of us do not realize that for the past three years he has given unselfishly of his time and energy behind the scenes of the Yearbook. He has advised and encouraged the Staff and has given unstinting effort to make the SHORELINE possible. It is with the greatest admiration, appreciation, and affection that we dedicate the 1963 Shoreline to MR. THEODORE TCHACK. Page 4 ADMINISTRATWN AND FACULTY MR. C. W. ROBERTSON Advisor CLAIRE ACCOLLA Secretary RUSTY HOVERMAN h Treasurer Page 16 BOB SCHWEIGER President V GEORGE ESPOSITO ' Vice President g, 5, V ., emfemder Len Way back in 1959, one hundred and seventy students entered the Freshman class, thus beginning a constant whirl of events to last us through four wonder- ful years. Remember that horror of a movie Hit the Deckn? Well, at least we made money. Then there was the Winter Wonderland Christmas Dance where a kid named Eddie Carfero sang. Remember how proud we all were when Jimmy, Rusty and George moved up from the Freshman basketball tea.m to ,l.V. in mid-season? Somehow we staggered through David Copperfield that year and wound everything up with our prom, Paris in the Spring What fun we had toasting the bread sticks over the candles! Sophomore year brought bigger and better things. They let us attend Senior High assemblies, not to mention dances. We gave two of our own dances, re- member 'cPilgrim Rock and '4April Showersn? That was the year we discovered the fun of renting a jukebox. The Highlight of 10th grade was our field trip to see uBen Hurf' The girls dreamt of Charlton Heston for months after. We be- came money-minded with our card sales. We groaned through Silas Marnerf, Final event: Class Picnic! A Juniors! Attending Open House Parties was a constant pastime. We sailed through Moby Dick and sponsored a Sadie Hawkins dance. lVlore Christmas Cards, and we all got sick on jelly donuts galore. High Spots: the prom, '4Blue Hawaiin fremember the falling gate?i and that memorable day when we re- ceived our senior rings. Low spot: P.S.A.T.7s.' Then suddendly we arrived! Be- lieve it or not we were: Seniors! 'cAnyone want to buy a pretzel? We sold refreshments at every home game and sponsored the Country Fair Square Dancen Whatever happened to the kissing booth? Then came Senior pictures and being measured for caps and gowns. Candy sales drove everybody crazy, especially Mrs. Esposito and Mr. Robertson. Remember how we felt the day we got our hats and pins? Now everyone would know just how the top bananas in this school were! We man- aged lVlacbeth and good old Chaucer. Then came college applications and job interviews to increase the anxiety. Weill always remember the smashing success of the Variety Show and the fun we had at rehearsals. And who could ever forget that night of magic at the Nl7'ouir Windsli? The year passes quickly and we're faced, all too soon, with the prospect of leaving Seaford High. As we look back over our four years here, we tend to forget the homework, exams, rules, and problems, remembering only the fun, the dances, parties, sports, and good times. That's the way it should be, because after all, we'll have to admit that these were the very best years of our lives. , ' Page 17 CLAIRE ACCOLLA Ambition: TEACHER Shoreline 3, Sr. Editor 4, Vik- ing Voice 4, Student Council 2, 3,4, Class Treasurer 1,3, Secre- tary 4, Sportsnight 2,3,4, Ten- nis 2,3,4. The Vikings wound up the year with a rec- ord of five wins and three losses. A passing 323233 lg giigfgghe ' N' attack, with quarterback Jim Valvano doing Seaford 12 McArthir 'B ' 16 the pitching, was installed this year by coach Seaford 0 Malveme f 26 Harry Curtis. This, along with outstanding Seaford 7 East ROCkgQg3f -' 0 line play, helped to account for the team's Seaford 49 Lynbrook f' 0 fine showing. The 63 season was highlighted Seaford 20 Levittown 'M ' 13 when three Viking players were picked by Seaford 20 West Hempstead k ' 7 the competing coaches to be on the all-league team. These were quarterback Jim Valvano, end Rusty Hoverman, and tackle Leo Rigaud. The 1963 Viking cage season was sort of a disappointment. Coach Valano expected a bet- ter showing than our nine and nine record. The season was highlighted by two victories over arc-rival Wantagh. With these victories we were able to keep in our possession the highly cherished Mace and Tomahawk. Seaford's out- standing player was Jim Val- vano. The Varsity Club is an organization formed to honor varsity athletes. To gain entry, one must earn a varsity letter and must also be voted in by the club's members. The club performs many helpful services to the school. They help to control congestion in the halls, supervise the running of the annual Mace-Tomahak Dance in cooperation with the Wantagh Key Club, and also award plaques to various coaches at the annual Dad's Club awards dinner. The Varsity Club is advised by Mr. Valvano. Page 106 Every high school has its outstanding athletes. The best of these athletes are often named to an all-league or all-county team. It is rare when an individual is named to three such teams. This year at Seaford We have such a person in Jim Valvano. Jim, a senior, has been named to the all-league baseball, basketball, and football teams. He was also named as all-county shortstop in baseball and just missed being all-county quarterback in football. Jim has been flocked by college offers but has limited his choices to Colby College, Al- bright College, and Rutgers University. Seaford High School pays its tribute to Jim Val- vano.
