CLASS I-IISTCDRY NCE 1n the dear, dead days be yond recall 11921 to youj when some of our 1llustr1ous Sen1ors were mere toddlers just out of thelr svsaddlmg clothes they declded to matrl culate, and thus Mr DeGelleke was blessed w1th another bunch of happy eneavourers Our only memento of the prlmary grades was a SCFICS of sparks touched off by that age old feud that you all don t know the half of CBarlow vs Barlow, Th1s feud at present, IS at ltS ebb and lt looks as though Barlow may QUIK for more 1mpor tant aCtlVItlCS But to Jump back agam through tlme we find that everythmg was serene untll the fifth grade when we were glven our first gllmpse of Mr Knapp, that b1g bad man from Syracuse It seems that hls wlfe, teach1ng us for a few days was hav1ng trouble w1th a couple of boys now not ln the class The Mrs declded to call up the boss It IS a mystery to me to thls day who won that battle we heard on the f1rst stalr 1and1ng In the Seventh Grade we rece1ved a shockmg experlence whlch explalns w1thout doubt the love of some of our Semors for the flamboyant In short the roof fell down The class at the Hand 'lhe roof began by releasmg several small pleces of plaster It was exceedlngly amuslng for several of the boys who took part1cular dellght ln teas1ng may we call her Iggy? to see several pleces land on her lovely noggm Although she was not hurt she looked sort of rumpled around the gllls Then a few m1nutes later the roof dec1ded to become more mtlmate and about one thlrd of It came down ThlS was the coup d etat but lt was the last straw for us We scrammed, as collo qu1al1sm puts lt From the 1nter1or of an adjomlng room where the class was con tlnued, we s1lently cursed our luck for not gett1ng at least a llttle b1t hurt and gettmg our names 1n the papers At last came the F1ghth Grade we were the supreme be1n s of the grammar school As was always the case when we wanted to do somethlng we dld lt Vhshmg to enter that mxsterlous sanctuary of hlgher learnmg, we forgot fr1vol1ty at least a l1ttle of lt and passed all our regents exams practl Page Szxtecn cally 1ntact As IS the custom every year we were the largest class ever to graduate from grammar school XVh1Cl1 one of us w1ll ever forget that memorable nlght graduat1on, when Presldent F1nkelste1n spoke up proudly ln defense of the fifty seven varletles' It comes tlme now to enumerate Olll deeds durmg our br1ef but happy four years 1n hlgh school VK 1th the add1t1on of numerous worthy scholars from Glen Head and Glenwood at the beglnnlng of our freshman year we have stead1ly come to be recogmzed as one of the finest classes 1n our school s hlstory We have real1zed th1s through the embodlment of two ldeals loyalty to our school and a blfldlllg class sp1r1t Nor have we g1ven the second ldeal preemlnence over the first No matter what phase of extra curr1cular act1v1ty you take athletlcs, clubs, muslc or drama vou w1ll lnvarlably find that lt owes ltS very l1fe and leadershlp to the class of 1034 Through all of these we sought no personal ga1n but only somethlng more tanglble to brmg honor to our school As to our funct1ons as a class, we leave the ODIHIOH of them to the judgment of the rest of the ways been successful In our efforts to please we have always been successful Our presentat1on of the Senlor Play The Champlon was popularly con sldered o u t s t a n d 1 n g Beneath all th1s there has always been burn1ng a zeal ous class Splflt whxch we have enjoyed for four years The class of 34 has won the athletlc plaque two years ln successlon a last1ng symbol to our fraternal emot1ons One of the finest partles we have had was after the Senlor play when the Sen1or Class advlsers IVIISS Herr1ng and Mlss Scott 1n Vlted the entlre Sen1or Class to the1r home A thoroughly enjoyable tlme was spent 111 danclng, s1ng1ng and eatlng wh1le not one present restramed h1s or her enthus1asm for a mutual good tlme It IS thus we close th1s h1story Wllh th1s summary any class no matter how great or how small lf dedlcated to the hlgh 1deals and honor of IIS school, IS not w1thout lts reward D HARRIS 0 -'- -.- . Y,.,,HENRY GRAHAM .-, Wf- JUNIOR PROM HE evening of june hrst was not only a big event in the activities of the class of '35, but also one of the most outstanding social affairs of the year. The decorations, worked out by Howard Wansor to represent a ship's deck, were extremely effective. The low-hanging mid- night-blue ceiling cast a striking but pleas- ing light over the dancers and usually un- occupied deck chairs IK ithout any decorations whatsoever the Prom would have been a huge success as the music was furnished by William ber licks splendid band The Lommanders The dance was well attended with parents, JUNIOR N the afternoon of December 15 the C lass of 35 presented such a worth while assembly program that the entire Junior and senior high schools rub bed elbows with a large group of parents in the high school auditiorxum If I may use a steal from the well known radio program first curtain was JUNIOR SENI HE first thinf we noticed as we sal l1ed into the gym on the eventful evening of December In was that the perfectlv good dance music provided bv the junior Orchestra was being w tsted That annoyed us terrlblv because we had sliding around on the ICN streets to attend this party Another prev ailing condition which prov ed to be a thorn in our sides was that all those who had arrived before u were novv fi hting to t e ist ditch ovtr card tables about the rules for rummy 1 fish and whit have you Seem' th tt ill this would never do w alumni, teachers and not a few freshmen. The abundance of cakes and punch seemed to satisfy all, including Mr. Knapp. The Junior Prom initiated into the school a somewhat new idea. The price for those who attended was the same whether with, or without a partner. The object of this fixed price idea, was an endeavor to do away with the long, unpopular stag lines. The experiment proved to be a fairly effi- cient one The class advisers, Nlxss Parsons, Nlfss Joslyn and Mr Ixnapp without whom the Prom would not have been such a success deserve credit and thanks from the juniors for their cooperation ASSEMBLY called, and a hush came over the audience Ihe trials and tribulations of Scrooge and his associates were then depicted in a pre sentatlon of that immortal favorite, The Christmas Larol Even the Freshmen were awed by the performance, a fact which offers ample proof that the skill of the actors was ap preciated by all OR PARTY rushed hither and von to stralghten out the various difficulties Since all we got for our pains was the well known raspberries thank you we returned the compliment and proceeded to take advantage of the in vttlng dance floor and the intriguing mu ic The mam diversions were dancing and kibitstng in card fames We of course devoted some little time to making faces at the envious outsiders who were Qlllllxlllf ibout in the lobby and to jeerlng at Nlr Ixnapp becau e he was frustrated in the ittempt to dump severtl fallons of water in thc punch In fitt, we were so plet smtlv occupied th it clevtn oclock ctmt 1 idi 1 reeible surmri c Pugf T zntvf f ,W n , - ,v - N -1 ,. .
