The Christmas party was a big success with carol singing, candy canes, and Janet dressed like Santa Claus. There are so many things to remem- ber, as we loolc baclc on our stay here. Remember how surprised Miss Thornbury became when she dis- covered one ol us chewing gum? Remember how hard Miss Tucker tried to teach us how to typewrite? All of the stories Mrs. Davis told us added much to our enjoyment of her classes. Will you ever forget how often Pat Connor said Uhonestlyu? Or how seriously Janet reported on the Ameri- can lndian situation? Remember all the colces we consumed over at Schraliljfs while we discussed all our problems? Betty Pechillo created Herbert and upoolcien while Martha Anderson became even more pro- ficient on the typewriter. Edith Greenberg became even more energetic. while Meg, Janie, and Janet became busier and busier. Sallyanne's posters added beauty in contrast to the cloudy atmosphere of the smolcer. Kay's beautiful clothes were a treat each day. and Anna's hearty laughter echoed from the third floor. Oh, there are so many things to remember. One of the sadder things is the sight of the sign Air Raid Shelter, for what it stands lor can only bring troubled hearts. The world we are going out into is a fast-moving one of much com- plexity. The shadow of war once again threatens the security of peace and the American way of life that is so precious to us. We can only hope and pray that our world will be safer and more understandable-for it is at our fingertips. 5

enior for? IT WAS A CALM AND PEACEFUL DAY when we first invaded the halls of Scudder. Little did we know at the time of the many lasting friendships we would make, the knowledge we would gain, or the happy experiences we would long remember. Our world was then a maze of strange people, new books, unfamiliar rooms, and the cry of Ugreat expectations. The quiet that pervaded Scudder soon ended as we became ac- quainted and started on our way to becoming the efficient secretaries we had heard so much about. The familiar sound of lockers banging, class bells ringing. and quick chatter became a part of our lives. How strange it was when we realized that those chicken scratches actually meant something, and how feeble were our first attempts at writing shorthand. Those big black machines that dominated the typing rooms gave us a start at first, but it wasn't long before we were writing, Now is the time, with amazing speed. Remember the tea the senior girls gave for us to make us feel at home? it certainly achieved its purpose and helped us discover many new friends. Christmas brought the fun of the annual holiday party with group singing and beautiful solos by Angela and Marlu. How happy Janet Price looked when she discovered she held the lucky ticket that entitled her to Hcuddlesf' a big stuffed lionl Remember the bridge we held in March for the yearbook? And in spring, at the Mother-Daughter tea, Pat and Janie had everyone laughing at their impersonations of a boss and his efficient secretary. Where did that first year fly? it seemed like no time at all until we were once again back at school, eager to make new friends and complete our training. This year, it was our turn to give the welcome tea to the many wonderful new members to our class. Meg Gallogly became our able president and Janet Dunleavey was elected editor of the yearbook. 4
