There was the excitement of the first few days of school with new classes, new clubs to join, and just being part of the Senior High. The year was filled with memories such as learning a foreign language, cheering In Pep Club. Spirit Week, and participating in sports. Favorite memories of the freshmen were Godfather’s Pizza after a game, playing video games, the fun bus rides, and going to Senior High parties. 44 45 LHL'l' Uilr IV lilili Jim Paprocki and Liz Kumpf were crowned King and Queen of the 1984 Homecoming Dance. Jim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Paprocki, is a three-year letterman in football and track. Liz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kumpf, has been active in Pep Club for four years and is currently serving as treasurer. The couple was crowned in Memorial Hall after the dance. Homecoming took place on Oc- tober 14th. The festivities started after the football game in which Scotus battled Boystown. The spirit week was definitely a success this year. There was more overall participation in the days than ever before. Crazy Day was the favorite of everyone. We saw togas, Dolly Parton, a parade of punk, and many other original ideas. KING JIM QUEEN LIZ 47 Candidates for the 1984 Homecoming dance included: Roger Konwinski and Karen Soulliere, Pat Kryzcki and Lisa Thalken, Todd Kudron and Lisa Keller, Jim Placzek and Julie Englebert, and Paul Braun and Sherri Zywiec. 48 I The music for the evening was 1 provided by the Knights of the Round Tdble D. J.’s. They played everything from Stairway to Heaven to Whip It”. The decoration and refresh- jfc ments were provided by the Senior ;. class. With a theme of Don't Let It End we saw rainbows and streamers covering the entire cafeteria. It was an evening filled with many surprises and will long be remembered by all who attended. On March 2, 1984, the sophomore class sponsored its annual Sweetheart Dance in the cafeteria. The big moment arrived when last year’s King, John Kelly, and Queen, Kathy McLaughlin, crowned this year’s King, Larry Prososkj, and Queen, Michelle Korger. Crown bearers were Abbi Bator, and Matthew Torczon. Entertainment was by Redd Tagg of Omaha. The evening was filled with the midst of bubbles, tog, and memories. Nothing can demolish the joy in our heart For this night plays such an important part. We highlight those memories we have of the past And hold on to our dreams for they always will last Special thoughts so sincere are present tonight 'Cause everything's perfect and a beautiful sight. Our friends and our peers with whom this night we share Unite together to demonstrate their friendship and care. This Scotus family celebration which we all are a member Is undoubtedly a night to remember. Claudette s falling over already??!!? Prom, on May 20, 1984, was an ultimate success! The Junior Class did an excellent job putting on prom. The theme was “A Night to Remember. Music was by KFRX 103 and the colorful decorations were silver and blue. The dinner was served by Johnnies Steak House, where Prom 1984 was held. 57 LlzV £ LWilrl: Dances played a big role in the life at Scotus In 1983-84. Campus Ministry was involved in a variety of activities during the 1983-84 school year. One of the major projects of the Team was Celebrate Life Week. The week began with a prayer service with guest speakers. The week ended with an all-school mass. During the week was a volleyball game and ice cream feed for the entire student body. The Garden program was continued this past summer. Many families received food from the garden. At Thanksgiving the team bought food for eight families, and they also sponsored a food drive for the food pantry. At Christmas the Team sent money to various charities. This year the team adopted a little girl from India, Reena. A certain amount of money is sent to her each month for her support. Campus Ministry also continued to sell concessions at the girls' volleyball and basket- ball games, and they held a tape dance in February, with all proceeds going to the needy. Historian; Lori Sokol, Parfla.; Theresa Welland. Reporter; Jane Wolfe. Treas.; Julie Engelbert. Sec.; Lisa Keller. V-pres.; Michelle Demuth. Pres. The Scotus Chapter of FBLA took a trip to Omaha on April 4th, 5th, and 6th. Fourteen members attended the State Leadership Conference and stayed at the Ramada Inn. Each student was required to take three tests, and attend seminars on leadership and decisionmaking. The general assembly occurred when over 12,000 members statewide listened to the president of FBLA speak. The election for new state officers was also held. When they were not taking tests or attending seminars, they were sitting in their rooms listening to music, watching T.V., swimming, or just roaming around. Students winning awards at SLC were: Jane Wolfe for Accounting I and Sheila Schmidt for creed event and spelling. Others who also attended were: Sandy Zegar, Kristi Klopnieski, Lisa Keller, Julie Engelbert, Becky Engelbert, Kathy Melcher, Jill Rieser, Gina Liebig, Laurie Beerbohm, Michelle Demuth, and Claudette Vrbka. 87 Business women of Scotus. Spanish Club Students. The Spanish students again had another exciting year! Activi- ties this year included: The Foreign Language Fair, field trips and super taco suppers! The coach of the Spanish Club was Mr. Henry DeLuna. 88 This year's Scotistics staff was faced with many challenges, including break- ing in the new teacher Mrs. Bomar, putting out a monthly paper, two literary magazines, and learning the basics of good reporting. All and all it was an educational year for the entire staff. 90 II One of the events several of the journalism students participated in this year was a trip to Lincoln. The day was spent attending lectures and debates. We learned several techniques for both the paper and the yearbook. It was an exciting day for all. This year's theme “Let the Good Times Roll” was a great description of this year's Senior class and all we did. We took school seriously, but most of all we wanted to have a good time. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Gary Anderson for the many pictures he took. Most of all I would like to thank the annual staff for all the time and effort put into the annual, and to Mrs. Bomar for all her advice. Thanks again, Janette Modelski, Editor 92 Above: Bill displays his two favorite pictures and his ability to smile. Left: Janette attempts to type on pure sulfur dioxide. Hang Ten. We've looked toward this for many years, we counted down the days. And now it’s here, so soon it seems, I wish it wouldn’t end The time has come for us to say Good bye to all our friends. Six years ago we came together, Joined as one big class It seems it was just yesterday, How fast that time did pass. We shared so many memories • Some were good, some bad We laughed sometimes, and then we cried Over moments happy and sad. The good times we had in the past Have all but gone away Always they will be a memory Always there to stay. 144
