COUNTY GOVERNMENT DAY PARTICIPANTS AND SPONSOR Government Day at the Platte County Courthouse is a junior class project in which the American History students all over the county participate. Parties are drawn up and primary elections held so students have the opportunity to learn about the actual campaigning and voting. At Scotus, the final elections and the campaigning is an exciting event. Offices held this year and the win- ning students are listed below. 1971 Boys And Girl Staters The 1971 Boys and Girls Staters who will represent Scotus at the State Convention in Lincoln this summer are Larry Can- non (LEFT) and David Melliger and Patricia Mirr. Girl and Boy Staters are chosen for their scholastic achieve ments in school and in the community. They participate in a week long session held in Lincoln. There they experience the actual functioning of government by learning how state, coun- ty, and city governments are run. They seek and compete for offices such as; governor, mayor or others. More important to these students now because of the lowering of the voting age, this experience should be a very valuable one. I
