FOREWORD This year was the 700th anniversary of Blessed John Duns Scotus. How fitting, that also this year Scotus Central Cath- olic was dedicated. It was a time of newness and of unique memories - unique in that never before and never again will students experience these specific events. There was the con- celebrated High Mass on the feast of Blessed Scotus and the dedication of the high school. And who can forget the in- numerable times we stepped over work- ing men, hunted for rooms in a school we've attended for three years, and, of course, the pride we felt when at last the buildings were finished? These are the memories that we, the annual staff, wish to bring you in the 1967 SCOTUS. In view of this, the Second Vatican Council en- courages teachers to carry on courageously their chosen task and to strive to excell in penetrating their students with the spirit of Christ and in the advancement of knowl- edge. We are happy to report that these have been the constant goals of Scotus Central Catholic. Father James McManamon, O. F. M. TRACK ’67 The year 1967 was a year of hopes for the Scotus track team as well as all the students. Scotus entered the State Meet with eight qualifying events and was expected to be a contender for the cham- pionship. Things did not go as well as expected fue to a pulled leg muscle of Steve Shadle. Scotus finished eighth in the Meet with twelve points. A total of nine new school records was posted. Steve Shadle led the State in the 440 with a time of 48. 5, the third best time in the history of Nebraska. Scotus encountered many hardships and difficul- ties in athletics, however, success was its goal and this was attained in the final events by the SCOTUS TRACK TEAM of 1967. Joe qualified in 3 State events, broad jump, 880 yd. Relay, and was fifth in the 180 low hurdles (20. 5). He compiled the second highest number of points in track events, be- ing outdistanced by Shadle only. Steve Shadle and Jim Legenza were State contestants for the 440. We, the Class of '67, having benefited spiritually and scholastically from our four years of high school, ask that God shower His abundant blessings and the gifts of peace and understanding upon all those responsible for our achievements and ac- complishments. For the interest of our Superintendent, Father James McManamon, in our spiritual development as evidenced by his efforts to extend the benefits of a Catholic High School Education to more teenagers in the recent centralization of the high schools into our present Scotus Central Catholic. For the moral guidance in the classrooms and the individual conferences of our de- voted priests. For the efforts of our dedicated faculty to insure our academic graduation. For the patience and guidance of our loving parents. For the generous financial contributions of all Sponsors and Patrons, as well as the assistance of all those who helped us make this 1967 SCOTUS a reality. f 118 PATRONS BLACK ANGUS DRIVE IN THE BLUE BIRD COLUMBUS SALES PAVILION JOURDAN BAKERY, INC.
