? - ,. expectations in the Mason County linterprise but the board was not sufficient- ly interested in us to deign to notice our petition by any sign whatsoever. NVQ hope that the other classes following us will not be discouraged by our apparent failure but will carry on, agitating the question whenever pos- sible and so arousing the townspeople to our need of a well equipped gym- nasium. If everyone is for us the board can no longer justify its delay in the matter. When the board signifies that they are ready to at-t on the plan as pro- posed they will find each class ready to give its material support and untiring aid to what we believe will become the best advertisement the Seottville schools can ever have. ATHLETICS Athletics started off with a rush at the beginning of the year, but the enthusiasm soon died down. An attempt was made to organize a football team, but was given up due to the lack of material. Basketball was not attempted because there was no place available for practice. A field-meet in which both girls and boys participated was held under the direction of Coach Ode. The diti'erent. events for the girls wereg ball throw, 50 and T5 yard dash, and standing and running broad jump. Events for the boys were, 50 and 100 yard dash, and standing, running and high jump. The Seniors emerged the victors by capturing the greatest number of points. The class of 1920 was always noted for its athletic ability, especially class baseball. Last year a high school baseball team was organized and games were played with independent teams from Carr Settlement and Custer. Seottville won two of the games tho' playing against older and experienced teams. A very exciting game was played with Custer on Decoration Day which ended in a near riot. This year with plenty of material and an efficient coach in Mr. Ude, we expect to put out an invincible team. It is the plan of the class of 1920 to arouse in the minds of the public the neceessity of building a gymnasium for the school. Until this is accomplished, interest in this important line in our school will always be on the decrease. GEORGE LONG-
