Second Bass The class in musical sight reading meets on Tuesdays and lfridays. The work consists of reports given hy the students upon the different varieties of music and of practice in scale building. The Orchestra has been very helpful in furnishing music for all occasions. lt furnished the music tor the Oratorio as well as other events. The aim of thc members of the department of music is to awaken in the people a love for the hcst kind ot' music. AGRICULTURE WILDA LEHMAN A course in agriculture has hecn introduced in vocational education under the Smith-Hughes and liufts laws and is taught in our school this year under our instructor Mr. Ode, a graduate of M. A. C. The tirst ycar's work includes the study of plant life, mechanical draw- ing, and farm carpentry. The work in plant life consists of the study of farm plants from a botanical standpoint, the collection and identification ot' seeds, weeds and the study of the most connnon plant diseases. The mechanical drawing is of a very practical nature, giving the tundarnental principles of drawing, the principles of perspective ground plans, elevations and cross sec- tions. The students apply this drawing work to their carpentry. Our second year's work pertains to a study of farm crops and horticul- ture. In this course, field observations are taken and a special study of the farm plants. ln the third yearts work we have the study of animal husbandry, the types

The elementary course in Latin now given makes Caesar, which is offered for a second year's work, easier by giving in simple Latin the story of the first two hooks of the Gallic War, :ind by frequent use ot' phrases and constructions from t'aesar, FRENCH French was introduced into our curriculum last year to replaeo the Ger- man. This course furnishes a good conversational vocabulary, gives drills in pronunciation, and the grammar eompletes the essential points in elementary French. l onr students are enrolled in a elass of advanced French this year. The l rench classics L'abha Constantin, lin l ranee, and the several l rench plays studied have been very inspiring as well as intensely interesting. lt is hoped that nest year will find a large enrollment in this class. MUSIC VEVA DUNBAR The department of music is of interest to almost every student in the Scottville High Sehool. Miss Doris Bowen, teacher of musie in the school makes the work very interesting. The special feature of the department is the High School Chorus, a elass in musieal sight reading, and the Orehestra. The Chorus this term consists of both girls and boys, the Girls' Chorus and the I-Boys' tllee Club of the previous term having joined forces. The tfhorns meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Several seleetions have been proeured and learned by the Uhorus. These are The Skippers of St. Ives, flood- night, my Beloved, and Away to the Woods. An Oratorio upon the life of Uhrist was given at the Uommunity Hall December 18, 1919. The Oratorio consisted of three parts as follows: Part 1-The birth and life of Christ.

Our last year's work is the study of soils and fertilizers, farm manage- ment, machinery and construction. In the study of soils and fertilizers care is taken in making observations and demonstrations that brings out the im- portant phases that a farmer ought to know, such as soil conditions, drainage, and also tl1e use of lime is carefully studied. Farm IlH1l'illll9l'y is of thc mach- i11ery in the warehouses as well as on the farm. Farnt construction is of farm pumps, water supply, rope splicing and the ventilation of farm buildings. Along with these four courses l have mentioned we have two projects, a part of tl1e students work during the summer. This project work relates the home to the school a11d the school to the home and this purpose is voca- tional and economie. ACTIVITIES Without this intersubjcetive intercourse men would remain a herd. -.lanies Ward The lligh Scl1ool functions enjoyed by the pupils of the lligh School have been of great success this year, owing to tl1e faet that all have co-operated and given their share of pep The lirst event of the term was a Senior-Junior weiner roast given at the river. ln spite of tl1e fact that a few of us climbed an unlimited number of fences we felt sure that everyone had a good time. In return the Junior class entertained tl1e Seniors at the High School. All present reported it a grand success. At Xmas time by the combined efforts of the iligh School students an en- tertai11u1ent was given at the Community llall. A program efficiently pre- pared by a committee was given during the evening in which tl1c impersona- tion of the teachers was very cleverly presented. A mock wedding caused much laughter and excitement. Santa Claus arrived in time to distribute various gifts to those present. A lap supper was served by an appointed com- 111ittee. On the night of February 13th, the l5oy's and tlirl's Literary societies entertained the students in the halls of the High School building. A program was given in the primary room. Tables were set' in the South hall where light refreshments were served. Following this the contents of a Valentine box were distributed. Two sleighrides, one to Sugar Grove a11d the other to Resseguie school to the benefit entertainments given by the Seniors completes our events so far this year, but we hope many more will follow.
