The 1971 Lion is a student ' s view of a year that has become only a memory. The year 1970-71 will rapidly become almost indistinguishable from all that have gone before and will follow; but what time erases, this book will preserve, the year as the student saw it as Scotts Hill. In the classroom as well as on the court, students met victory and defeat. As a group, we huddled together to face the new opportunities of tomorrow. As individuals we kept our goals set high and plodded on to the future. 1970-71 was a game ... teacher ... friends ... the past ... hope ... fear ... a memory pointing on toward the future.

[ When we, as students of Scotts Hill School, began our last four years of work at school, little did we realize how greatly our lives had been and would be affected by the faculty. Our lives and opinions have been tremendously influenced by our teachers. Our problems have been their problems; our hopes and ambitions theirs. ' They have been our friends. They were always ready to advise and encourage in warm understanding whenever we needed them. They have lighted the lamp of learning in a most delightful and inspiring way. We would like to give special recognition to our principal, Mr. Charles Woody, who has so capably led us tills year. He has not only been our principal, but he has been our friend. He was never too busy to discuss a problem with us or answer our questions. Mr. Woody has endeavored in every possible way to achieve the best for our school. He has instilled in us a love of truth, honor, and respect for our fellow- man. In no way could we say thank you to this group of devoted teachers, but to show our gratitude for the many times they have helped us, inspired us, and led us, we, the Senior Class of ' 71, most respectfully dedicate this edition of the 1971 Lion to this group of teachers and our principal.
