I9 cfaglea Summary of Basketball Games Modeled out of the materxal on hands a team was developed by Coach Hollowav that won ten and lost ten The bovs llved up to thelr name the FIGHTING EAGLES Wlth only seventeen boys out for basketball the goxng was sometlmes tough to get two teams ready for the games The flrst game was away from home wlth Iyew Goshen It was a rough game We looked very sharp ln our new 1ackets Lost 26 21 The second game was at St Bermce Thls was one of our best games The start 1ng flve all scored between 8 and 16 pomts Won 56 36 The thlrd game vsas w1th Indlanola It was close all the vsay but vse fmallly lost 41 36 The fourth game was at Fairmount We really got off to a bad start but flmsh ed strong wlnnlng 52 48 The flfth game was at home w1th Rldgefarm Thxs was really one hot nlght Stanley Wlmsett came through wlth 29 pomts Won 76 39 The slxth game was at Dana We lmtlated our new sweat pants by gettmg beat 39 31 The seventh game was at home wlth Chrlsman Thls game was a close thrllllng game Won 48 47 The elghth game was at Young Amerlca We h1t a slump here Hlgh pomt man had SIX pomts Lost 47 29 Nlnth game was at home wlth Kansas We got a good taste of the Bulldog s power After a stagefrxght flrst half we held our own Kansas outscorlng us 4 pomts ln the last half Lost 91-44 The tenth game was at home wlth Redmon Won 46 43 overtlme The eleventh game was a return game wxth Young Amerlca Thls tlme we lost by only 3 pomts Lost 47 44 The twelfth game was at home w1th Brocton Played good ball wlth everyone scormg but Fulton and Wheeler Won 57 42 The thxrteenth game took us to Indlana for a game mth Newport We came llmplng back w1th a loss of 60 44 In game No 14 It s Redmon again at Redmon What a game' Fxve seconds to go we re behlnd 38 37 Then Stanley Wlmsett calmly sank a fleld goal from mxd court g1v1ng us a 39 38 victory Game No 15 Brocton agam We chalked up another vlctory 43 33 In game N o 16 we trled Dana agam but under adverse condltlons lost by only 8 pomts 52 44 Dana had beaten Cllnton Indlana by 10 pomts th1s year In game No 17 we traveled down to Westfield and won a DICE vlctory 54-48 In game No 18 we played a return game mth Falrmount and won a d6C1S1V6 vlctory 42 25 Thxs was one of our best defensive games In game No 19 we played one of our rather unusual games Lost 47 43 to Sldell and we mlssed only 18 lay ups and 15 free throws Game No 20 Ugh Chrlsman Well all remember Mr Graham Lost 51 47 Y ' -V ' ., l :- 1 . . . 19 ffagfes Scottland Illlnols March 1 1952 Dear Basketball Fans Some of you have been askmg about the team thls year Here IS the dope Hugh Fulton A Semor vsho has glven the ball club a lot of spark and Im sure Hugh IS one of the best defenslve men ln the county H15 speed and aggresslveness w1ll be mlssed by all Wllham Davls A Semor who has had great p0SSlb1lltl6S but they ale Just not comlng forth He certamly f1l'llShed the season playmg great blall Probably the greatest sklll B111 wxll take w1th hlm IS h1s reboundmg a 11ty Stanley Wlmsett A Semor vsho has greatly lmproved over last year but st1ll somewhat unpredlctable He had most pomts 1291 per game agamst Rldgefarm He also w1ll be mlssed Stanton Wlmsett A Semor who has thrxlled many wlth h1s flne one handed shots A good all around ball player he w1ll certamly be mxssed next year Ronme Ulrey A Semor who certamly carrles a lot of welght wxth our boys and has certamly been a valuable man to have around Ronnle always has a smxle yet very serlous about what he does No task seems too great for hlm He always trles hls best Roger Lawson A Sophomore who has developed faster than any boy on the squad Roger has played many outstandmg games thls year scorlng well and reboundlng very well He certamly w1ll be a good boy to have around next year Ed Worthmgton A Jumor who has really come a long way thls 5 ear I feel sure before next season IS over Ed vslll have quxte a reputatlon Maurlce Ingram A Jumor who IS llttle but mlghty He has great poss1b1l1t1es and could p0SSlbly be one of the best long shots around Connle Wheeler A Freshman who was weak fundamentally the first part of the season yet has come a long way thls year Connle IS deflnltely a good prospect for next year Gordon Huffaker A Sophomore who has a good eye for the basket and w1th some experlence Gordon should be one of the top scorers the next two seasons James Mxller A Sophomore who IS a very good prospect for the comlng seasons Jlm hasnt played as much as he should th1S year be cause of sxckness and varlous other reasons He will certamly be welcomed back next year Our basketball at Scottland has come a long way thls season The teams have played some very good basketball th1s year and of course a tem bad ones whlch w1ll happen to any team If these same boys could rema1n together for one more season lt IS quite probable our opponents would all scrlnge and squxrm at the mentlon of the name Scottland Smcerely yours Coach Holloway . . 1 9 9 . . . . . .
