It s a frlendly pleasant place where the students can enjoy them selves We don t work too hard and nobody has d1ed from overwork yet s far as I know We want to keep lt that way Of course the teachers thlnk they work pretty hard and probably they do They go upstalrs downstalrs office study hall telephone mllkman the bread man the gvm It s no wonder they are tlred and crotchety at 3 40 p m But they re DICE people You know what I mean? Stage Manager Well there 1snt too much culture Last year the Senlors p1 esented The Late Chrlstopher Bean a Broadway play Whlch many folks seemed to enjoy Lavonna read Shakespeares Mldsummer Nlght s Dream at a speech contest Vlrglhla and Martha Lou slng and Wanda Berry plays the plano Barbara reads poetry wlth feellng and Lela Ann can wax eloquent 1n speeches agalnst war It seems as 1f the glrls have more culture than the boys but that may not be true Wxth coaxlng proddmg and br1b1ng Hugh Eddle and Archie w1ll Slng a song or tvso but they don t seem very happy about It Of course all of us have 1ead Treasure Island and Sllas Marner because that IS requlred read mg The only palntlngs we know are The Man Wlth the Hoe and The Angelus Perhaps we don t have the love of beauty Whlfh you mean but we llke to smell the black loam ln the sprmg to see the sturdy stalks of corn grow and to feel the breath of the seasons as they change A fresh man boy wrote 1n a theme that the most beautlful thmg ln the world to hlm was the look ln hls mothers eyes when she was happy You see ss hat I mean?
