A8 GBHS 'l8f'ld S HORACE SCCTT HIGH SCHCCL COATESVILLE PENNA i LASSOF I947 Qur Asplraflons by LOIS FYRNE MILLER Like all graduating classes before us we feel that Scott has held for us something spec1al something which belongs to us alone We look back not so long ago when we f1rst arrlved and discovered that our new environment embodied a new recrpe for l1v1ng Some of the old ingredients were present but these were over shadowed by the unfamiliar ones wh1ch challenged us to ut1l1ty experimentation and questron Even then while we tr1ed to make our own l1ttle niche when we wanted most of all to become a part of th1s happy whirl of work and play we looked forward to this our day when we would soon be saying farewell and au revoire Watching the upper classmen graduate we found ourselves envious yet apprehensive thinking that soon we would be among them trying once, more to make a mark trying to become a part of the world somethrng brg and something frightening With the discovery of new atomic powers comes the real1zat1on that more understanding will have to ensue if we are to live Trying to do right in a world such as that of today proves to be a tremendous undertaking we promise you future graduates that we will expend more effort practice better thinkrng and encompass sympathy and under We the Class of 1947 do hereby affirm that we personally adopt the Preamble to the United Natrons Charter we ascribe to this historical document we have farth that through these efforts we shall attain a practical phrlosophy of living peace of mind and PEACE Preamble to the UN charter We the peoples of the United Nations determined To save succeeding generations from the scourge of war which twice in our lrfetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind and To reaffirm faith in fundamental human rrghts in the dignity and worth of the human person in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small and To establish conditions under which justice and respect for the oblrgatrons cursing from treaties and other sources of international law can be marntained and To promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom and for these ends To practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good nelghbors and To unite our strength to maintain international peace and security and To insure by the acceptance of prrncrples and the institution of methods that armed force shall not be used save 1n the common interest and To employ international machrnery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples, have resolved to combine our efforts to accomplish these arms CLASS OF l947 . g . . .
