Curry , Mrs. Lillian Hensley 'fl yiig r Mr. Cecil Rexroad CLASS HISTORY Four years ago, the Senior Class ot '48 walked through the doors ot Scott High School and opti- mistically demanded an education, We started our high school career with an en- rollment ot l56 eager, self-assured freshmen. Due to this, our candidate, Patsy Miller, became Carni- val Oueen. Our class president was Frank Dolin, with Dean Carter acting as vice-president, and Lor- raine Maynard as our secretary-treasurer. Our ad- visors were Mrs. Ball, Miss Ward, and Coach Gainer. We entered our sophomore year with ll5 enrolled. Our new sponsors were Mrs. Ball, Mrs. Bradley, and Miss Wheatley. Several parties were our only extra-curricular activities. But in sports Bob Smith, Arnett Ball, Leon Barker, Dean Carter, and Bill I-Iarless made the Varsity squads. Our junior year, with an enrollment of 107, was a period ot steady ac- tivity. Our play The Chance of a Lifetime was conceded by all to be suc- cessfulg our carnival broke all previous recordsg and our banquet and prom were greatly enjoyed. We numbered 84 our senior year. We published the Argus and the Scot- tonian, our school paper and annual, and presented the play The Young Imp . Everyone enjoyed the Iunior-Senior Prom on which the junior class outdid themselves for us. .-12- ASHBY, MARION MILDRED Majorette ly Camera Club 2-35 Glee Club 3-45 Varsity Club 45 Drum Major 45 Cheerleader 4. Standing to the right of Mr. Mullins is Mr. Maurice Hylbert, driver education instructor. Students and Parents: lt has been our pleasure to donate the first driver training car to Scott High School. lt is our honest belief that driver train- ing Will help to foster a sense of responsibility in the young drivers and will aid materially in lessening automobile acci- dents. According to available statistics, the greatest number of accident offenders, proportionately, are found in the teen age group. What better place is there to teach accident prevention than in high school? None to our Way of thinking. We congratulate Scott High on being one of the first high schools in the state to offer driver education as a fully accredited course. , The addition of such a course to the curricula is an indica- tion that Scott is a progressive school and is abreast of the times.
