The Superintendent’s Message Fellow Students Today’s youth — including the members of your graduating class are tomorrow’s adults — production and service workers, technicians, professionals, clerks and managers — parents or other heads of families. Foremost, your admission to the adult world, — your badge of belonging, is a job. However, automation, mechanization and scientific advances are causing many unskilled jobs to disappear. Today’s and tomorrow’s jobs require higher skills, more maturity and judgment, more education, and more experience. Your schools face what may be the principal challenge of the 20th century public education in gearing their programs to meet the rapid changes in our economy and technology. You, as graduates, face a world of promise and unprecedented challenge. You must be confident, eager, and anxious to enter and to succeed in the adult world, as were your fathers and grandfathers. You must not allow this venturesome spirit to be dulled by the discovery that jobs do not exist, or that those that do, are out of reach. Most of you, with adequate preparation will find steady, satisfying and productive work. Your graduation from Scott High School is the first step toward success in whatever the future holds for you. Sincerely yours, Curtis J. Clay Superintendent of Schools

SCOTT HIGH SCHOOL To the Class of 1963, The educated man is by no means insensitive to the pleasures of the. senses. But his greatest satisfaction is derived from the use of his mind. Life for him becomes a voyage of discovery of himself, of others, and of the forces that shape the environment. The more he understands, the more fully he lives. The educated man also seeks to justify his existence by contributing in some constructive way to the operation of society as a whole. Graduation from high school launches a man on his search for fulfillment. This is the search that unites him with teachers, writers, and the other discoverers all around him. This is his challenge, the imagination and effort he brings to bear on his work represents his personal search for fulfillment. May each graduate of 1963 find it. Andrew G. Rensko
