SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS Fellow Students: The Survival of the American Way of Life and of all freedoms we cherish will depend on what happens in the classrooms in the next quarter century. Human experience has always been a race with catastrophe. But never has a race been so close, or the threatening catastrophe so overwhelming and so universal. Certainly education has never faced the challenges it faces today. Never have the stakes been greater, never a time when we need to think bigger, deeper, and higher than we need to think now. The greatest asset to our nation and our country is our youth. They build the future and they in truth are the future. Each student must have the opportunity to develop his capacity to the fullest for his own benefit as an individual and for the best interest of all of us as a nation. He must be content to start—and start in a small way, gradually working his way to responsibility and success. Sincerely yours, CURTIS J. CLAY College night at Scott. Dr. Clay in Indiana College room. 10

SCOTT HIGH PRINCIPAL Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1960! When you leave the class-rooms of Scott High School, we hope that you will not think that your education is completed because, in reality, is should only be starting. The word “education” is derived from a Latin verb, “educo,” which means to lead forth or lead out. In high school, we have tried to lead you out or lead you forth to show you the way to greater learning or greater possibilities in life. Whether you go on to a higher institution of learning, enter the business world, or go into one of the armed services, we hope that you will keep your minds alert and always endeavor to increase your mental growth. In doing, you will not only add to your own happiness but you will also be better citizens in this great country of ours. Eugene W. Davis Mr. Davis presenting Outstanding Athletic Award of 1959 to Tom Fantaski. 11
