A native of Matawan, New Jersey, Com- mander Russell joined the Navy in 1970 and attended the Naval Academy Prep School prior to entering the Naval Acad- emy in 1971. He graduated from the United State Naval Academy in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned into the Regular Navy. His initial assignment was to the Naval Re- cruiting District Newark, New Jersey, where he served until December 1975. From January 1975 through October 1977, Commander Russell attended flight train- ing in Pensacola, Florida. He was reas- signed as a student at the Surface Warfare officer School in Coronado, California in October 1977. His initial sea tour was as fuel and catapult steam officer on the USS CONSTELLATION CCV 645. His next as- signment was to the Surface Warfare Offi- cer School in Coronado, California, where he served as an instructor. In 1983, after completing the Surface Warfare Department Head course in New- port, RI, Commander Russell served as Operations Officer in USS INGERSOLL CDD 9905 followed by a tour as Operations Officer in USS YORKTOWN CCG 485. In 1987, he was assigned duty as a student in the Command and Staff curriculum at the Naval War College. Commander Russell received a Masters Degree in Manage- ment from Salve Regina College and a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies while attending the War College. Upon comple- tion of his studies at the War College, he reported to USS WORDEN QCG 185 as Ex- ecutive Officer in 1988. He was assigned to the Staff of the Chief of Naval Opera- tions, Surface Combatant Combat Systems Division fOP-355 in July 1990 as the Head of the AEGIS Weapons Development Sec- tion QOP-355W5. Commander Russell has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal twith gold star in lieu of second award5, Navy Com- mendation Medal Cwith gold star in lieu of second aWard5, Navy Achievement Medal twith gold star in lieu of second award5, and other unit commendations. Commander Russell is married to the former Sandee Kaye Harrison of Corinth, Mississippi. They have three children Tony, Amber and Travis. CDR RUSSELL J'LJL7LJLJL1CiLj

He graduated in 1979 with a B.S. in Mathematics and was assigned to Little Creek, VA in the USS FAIRFAX COUNTY QLST 11931, While assigned he attended the Surface Warfare Division Officer's Course in Newport RI. He then served as Auxilia- ries Officer and Navigator. He was then assigned to Fleet Combat Direction Sys- tems Support Activity, Dam Neck, VA H where he was a Systems Test and Deliv- ery Officer. After attending the Depart- 3 4fiL'7J3333J3.?33J333333333J33J333333333333-533333333 33 333.93359 'sig' ment Head Course in Newport, RI, he was assigned to Mayport, FL as Engi- neer in USS UNDERWOOD QFFG 361 and Key West, FL as Executive Officer in USS GEMINI QPHM 65. Assignment to Washington, DC followed as Surface Ship Placement Officer in BUPERS and then Aide to the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations QSurface Warfareb. Upon completion of the Perspective Executive Officer Course in Newport, RI he was assigned to Norfolk, VA as Executive Of- ficer in USS SCOTT QDDG 9955.
