if V XV4 . rg M.lVlAlNlDllNG OFFIGER .4 'j': ' Thomas C. Corcoran Commander Corcoran was born in Evanston, Illinois on Ppril 1 1, 1949, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Corcoran. He was raised near Chicago. In 1971 he was graduated from LUesleuan Universitu, earning a bachelor of arts degree with high honors in English. He entered the Navu in 1972 through the Officers' Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Fifter commissioning in Mau 1972, Commander Corcoran served with the Pacific Fleet as First Lieutenant, Naviga- tor and CIC Officer in USS MFIIWIN SHIELDS CDE-10661. He was then transferred to Norfolk, Virginia where he was assigned as the Hide and Flag Lieutenant to Commander Cruiser-Destrouer Group, EIGHT. ln 1977, following atten- dance at the Surface l.Uarfare Officers' School Department Head Course in Newport, he reported to the Precommis- sioning Unit of USS COMTE DE GRHSSE QDD-9741 for dutu as prospective Operations Officer. COMTE DE GRHSSE was commissioned in Fiugust 1978, with a homeport of Norfolk, and Commander Corcoran served on board as Oper0- tions Officer until Julu 1980. From Hugust 1980 until October 1981, he was assigned to the staff of Commander SECOND Fleet as the Fleet Scheduling Officer. ln Januaru 1982 Commander Corcoran arrived in Heu LUest for dutu as Prospective Commanding Officer of U55 HERCULES QPHM-25. Precommissioning dutu took him to Bremerton, Lllashington in June to accept deliveru of the ship. Fifter she was commissioned in Januaru 1983, HERCULES transited through the Panama Canal to her homeport of Heu UJest, from which base she operated in the lllestern Htlantic and Caribbean. Believed in Januaru 1985, Commander Corcoran was assigned to dutu in lllashington, first as New Construction pl . .. acement Officer on the staff of Commander Naval Militaru Personnel Command, and next as Special Hssistant tO the Chief of Naval Operations CSpeechwriterJ. Commander Corcoran has been awarded the Mer itorious Service Medal and the Navu Commendation NleCl0l with two Gold Stars, among other citations. Commander, USN ,-
