This group is composed of a boy and girl from each of the three upper classes, who meet regularly to coordinate a schedule of assemblies ranging from a Billy Austin Recognition Day to the Moonglowers Pro- gram. GIRLS' CITIZENSHIP INSTITUTE Delegates elected by their classmates on the basis of leadership and citizenship represent the Class of l959 at Girls' Citizenship lnstitute. In June, 1958, the girls spent five days at Douglass College, where they learned more about the principles of democracy and service. Some of D. Knapp, D. Snyder, L. Ballinger. 1' ja.. the activities available to the girls while at Douglass were tennis, swimming, and group singing. On the last night, a talent show was given with all the girls participating. The highlight of the conference was a trip to Trenton, where Governor Meyner addressed the group. Delegates: Alternates: Nancy Boyd Nancy Hoeltie Elizabeth MacRae Elizabeth Zweifel Judy Babcock Janice Haer Nancy James Geraldine Piller BOYS' STATE Delegates- Donald Knapp, David Snyder, Lowell Ballinger Boys' State, which is sponsored bv the American Legion, gives elected representatives of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School the chance to learn how our government is run. The boys make an organized study of city, county, and state governments during the ten days spent at Rut- gers. They hold their own elections with political parties, nominations and campaigns for various fictitious offices. By knowing more about our government these boys will be better citizens of tomorrow.
