However, the seas eventually settled, as did our stomachs, and we were in for some smoother sailing as freshmen. Nevertheless, we have had to weather more than a few harsh storms since our inaugural year. Through the guidance of our advisors, Susan Mills and Ed Kelley, valiant efforts in both the hall and float competitions, with respective themes of The Hall of Fame and Cream the Blue Devils, garnered us third and second place finishes. Not bad for beginners! In the spring, the Freshman Class Hat Dance put some needed funds into our bare treasury. The class trip to George ' s Island later that spring was fairly successful, as well. Finally, we were introduced to PM homeroom! Sophomore year brought us a new principal. Dr. Gowen, and more class spirit, as we dominated Homecoming Week. Our hall, Yellow Submarine and float, Whip the Trojans, placed first, and we even tied the Juniors in the Spirit Link competition! The Sophomore Class Valentine ' s Dance was also a success. We ended the year in style, with the traditional Boat Trip, which further enhanced our sea worthiness. Our journey was already half over! Junior year brought many changes. Three new Class Officers had come on board, as we also welcomed a new advisor, Mr. Jaymes, and two new Assistant Principals, Mr. Steven Yachimski and Ms. Marie Doyle, who stood in for Ms. Keane. We anxiously and reluctantly took our PSAT ' s, a completely new experience. The Homecoming festivities saw us place second with our float We ' ll Track ' Em Down, and a disappointing third with our hall. However, our Munchie ' s Place made much money, and we won an overwehlming victory in the Spirit Link competition, along with all of that money! We faced our first major storm with the decision to hold the Junior Prom in the school for the first time in nearly a decade. It was not a traditional Junior Prom-Senior Reception, but was restricted to Juniors and their invited guests only! However, instead of abandoning ship, many of us worked very hard throughout the year to make it as successful as possible. In the meantime, the first Junior Class Dance, held in Caf 8, was a resounding success! Due to a combination of factors, we became the first class in re- cent school history not to hold a Junior Variety Show. In the midst of all of this, the Class President bailed out in embarrassment following his suspension for improper behavior at yet another Junior Class New Wave Dance. Despite all of this, following months of hard work and preparation, and a great team effort, our Junior Prom, Wishing on a Star, was, con- sidering the circumstances, a smashing success! We soon wrestled with the SAT ' s for the first time, and some even dared to face the dreaded Achievement Tests! Our fallen leader was ultimately re-elected, and we realized that there remained only one more year on this trip! We entered Senior Year with visions of colleges dancing in our heads. Immediately, a new storm faced us, as all school activities were put on hold while the Scituate Teachers ' Associa- tion battled the School Committee for a new contract. The teachers declined to be the ad- visors of activities, only as a means of negotiating leverage, until they came to an agreement. Finally, in late October, an agreement was reached. Although activities resumed, yearbook production was thrown way off course, and we were even robbed of a chance to construct one of those infamous Senior floats. However, we continued the Senior tradition of placing dead last in nearly all Homecoming competitions. We again faced the SAT and Achievements, but being used to the grind, took them bleary-eyed and beat from the previous night ' s activities. Our class dance, although restricted in size, was successful. Mr. Yachimski resigned and head- ed for greener pastures after doing a sterling job, and was sorely missed. Deadlines for college applications were always hanging over our heads, as our guidance counselors were always quick to point out. We finally completed them all. including the FAF, and on time, believe it or not! Ms. Keane had returned to her AP post earlier in the year, and we soon welcomed yet another Assistant Principal, Mr. John Moretti. By this time, Senioritis had reached epidemic 6 proportions. The traditional semi-formal Senior Dinner Dance was held in Caf B in the late winter. Before we knew it, the final Senior activities, including the Class Trip and Class Day, as well as an Awards Scholarship Ceremony, were soon upon us. Finally, our four-year odyssey was completed, and we sat awaiting to disembark. Surrounded by friends and family, we sat listening to various speakers, satisfied and contented that our day had at last arrived. Our minds racing, we reflected bittersweetly upon the experiences that we had, and simultaneous- ly pondered our futures with anxiety. Finally, after the last diploma had been awarded, the last works spoken, and the last tassle turned, the caps went flying, and we disembarked! At last! . . .
