WE CW UE£ CO PBOOK A OOLLBCnON OF UE UORJES F OM7WE OASS OF 1 979 sotu47e w£w scwool scituate, Massachusetts WOTOSRAPMV ' BV ' DODSE-MURFW Time is an ocean But it ends on the shore Like a beached whale Helpless upon the white sand Of eternity While the spectators Gaze upon the past Time is an ocean With all of its beauty But it still hath its fury As the rip tide Of nostalgia Forever waits to carry Away Time is an ocean But memories are more They are sea breezes Often refreshing But always penetrating The shores Into the recesses Of the mind — Jack Leary Staring at the sky, Peaceful, calm. Have to leave this place So much to do. Weaving through trees Over legs and branches Passing my initials, Inscribed in a tree. Glancing to the side Secret hiding spot Safe from the biting, Screeching wind. Safe from being found, Safe to be alone. Hesitating — not wanting To give up that tall grass, Where I have always picked Flowers. Afraid to leave it To someone else. Afraid my steps Will be trod over. Afraid to let go. Making my path Weaving through trees Staring, now and then, At the sky. — Theresa Sullivan Dr. John P. Kulevich Superintendent The Scituate High School class of 1979 would like to welcome Dr. John P. Kulevich to his first of (hope- fully) many years of service to the community as superintendent. After the resignation of the former superintendent, Dr. Bernard McKearney, the school committee went through a laborious process to deter- mine the successor. Dr. Kulevich was chosen to suc- ceed, and as a class, we hope he does indeed. At the beginning of this year, the administration and the entire school were, to say the least, confused. This state of confusion was prompted by the return of Michael Clancy to his first love — teaching. This left us short one housemaster! Mr. Clancy offered to fill the space while teaching History. Later, after the spread of many rumors as to the successor, Mr. William Anzivino emerged the victor. The class of 1979 feels that Mr. Anzi- vino will do a fantastic job, and wishes him the best of luck. Mr. Vincent Gilarde Housemaster B Mike Clancy Social Studies — Dept. Chair. J Does the teacher provide understandable explanations of what you don ' t understand? u think that this teacher is able to sense when the class doesn ' t understand somethia This year, the student council recognized the need for many changes. One of these was the need to reinstitute Teacher Evaluation. The teacher evaluation program is an evaluation of the faculty by the students on a voluntary basis. After much time and effort, a special committee, comprised of students, produced a standard questionnaire which they believed to be more comprehensive. It was then put to the Student Council, where an overwhelming major- ity accepted it. Then came the real test — it was put to the faculty. Despite several objections to certain questions and their wording, the questionnaire was again accepted. A good turnout was expected and received. The teachers were evaluated, and the results processed in the computer terminal above the library. Thanks to many hands to run the program, the results were rushed off to the appropriate teachers. Due to the immense success of the project, many other teachers have requested evaluations, and it is believed that many more will follow suit in the future. The Student Council has deemed this project as one of the most successful attempts at Teacher Evaluation.
