u v ,0 3 6 CLASS If you hoped that ' ' everything you ever wanted to ask about the Seniors but were afraid to know will be in this class history — you ' re wrong! The class has very few memories of the good old days, but the girls can ' t for- get The Movie that was shown in fifth grade. Laura M., Clair C. and all the other social butterflies will remember meeting their steadies at Damon Rock while in the sixth grade Maria C, Dottie H., and Nancy S., met their boyfriends in the woods behind Central School. (Where there ' s a will, there ' s a way.) While they were out socializing, other people gave their teacher an ulcer, isn ' t that true Susan P., Jane B., David C. and other members of Miss Reardon ' s fourth grade class. And does anybody remem- ber the wiffle Steve P. had in the sixth grade. Or the onion fight where Joe T. left his onion in Mr. Pratt ' s room . . . While Arthur H. was near tears in front of all the other sixth graders after his cherry bomb went off under a car, Walter A. got a spanking from Mrs. Hammil. We all trooped into the Junior High — no longer children, all the girls wearing bras except Nancy O. But the problems facing us now were big ones — how to safely pass Mrs. Keenan ' s shower checks and still keep your clothes on, or how to square dance with the boys in gym without really touching them. And how was Mrs. Soccorso suppose to answer Wendy S. question in the seventh grade Biology class without blowing her mind. In eighth grade almost every student had to take typing with Mrs. John- son (a-q-a-z . . . ) and almost every student tried to skip and almost every student was able to walk safely past her window without her even seeing you. Nobody who ever went to Chris G. parties will ever forget them. How about the day Geoff N. had it out with Mrs. Smith but Mr. Callis had to interfere. Nobody can ever forget Mrs. Smith and her tactful? com- ments, isn ' t that right Jeff S. Ted K. and Eric S. will never forget what good friends? they were? We can ' t forget Mr. Jones and his nifty days or Miss Giles and her place at the end of the hall. Well we moved right up in the world by coming to this here High School. Meagan H. made her grand entrance into the library in Freshman year by falling down the entire flight of stairs. And our float didn ' t make a very good impression either, because we came in last place. During our Sophomore year we didn ' t do much better — our float fell apart the night before Homecoming. But Paul T. had fun chasing people around in the golf cart. At our car wash a man said we scratched his car while we were washing it, but it wasn ' t true because we didn ' t wash any cars — we were too busy washing ourselves. Mary Lou M. went out with Paul McCartney, and Pam M. and Dotty L. were busy taking pounds of hamburger and whipped cream and storing it in the Home Ec kitchen drawers when teacher wasn ' t looking. Martha H., Lee T., Kathy M., Kathy G., and Dotty L. — remember going to the haunted house after going out for French food . . . Nancy O. drew a cartoon of Mr. Barlow with an exaggerated nose and chin while he was HISTORY standing behind her. And as long as we live we can ' t forget Sophomore Skip Day when half the class skipped school and went to the beach. Mr. Clancy brought a bus to round us up and Mike F. found two new friends. Junior year brought lots of nnemories. Jim B. tangled with the ' ' Back Bay Bomber ' in Cafe B and we won ' t forget that the Back Bay Bomber was a girl. It was the year of Mr. Sheehan ' s and Mr. Parker ' s Historic trip to P- Town. The weird people we saw there and the pink boats are still remembered clearly. Oh — and Miss Gonsalves third period gym class — don ' t forget the neck breaking hockey games complete with hip-check- ing and high sticking with parties on top of the lockers afterwards . . . Where Renee D. flask in her knee sox first originated. The float meetings were fun and not much work got done. The boys played football in Paul T ' s yard while the girls worked. Lee T ' s car ran away and somehow a flash- ing light appeared on someone ' s doorstep. At Kathy M. Homecoming Party, some people had lots of fun! Where did Wendy S. and Bob M. go? And why was Matt W. eating Sea shells (oh yes — he thought they were potato chips.) April vacation brought lots of fun — hey Gerry M., Allan H., Eric S., and Geoff N., and others, do you remember gazing at the full moons? George N., Mike P., Eric S., and Bob M., do you remember taking the cones off the expressway and what was in the trunk! To be serious for a second, we owe a lot to Bill H. for bringing our class together and thank Mrs. Burns and Mr. Anzivino for being our advisors. Our show was the greatest and a switch from the usual. Mike P. became Mr. America, Mike F. was a hit as a magician and we saw the kind of writing Gerry C. does . . . Mr. Jackman spilled Clair C ' s test tube and Polly F. chased him around the room. In other chemistry classes G. T. (Get Tiger) day was every day. Those water bottles were the greatest and the water fights something else . . . Trees kept getting in the way of those who went skiing — Cheryl C, Kelly S. and Cindy H. Some members of our class almost made the top 10 wanted list, Cindy R., Peggy M., Jane L., Mike F., Gary M., and Lisa S. were chased by the police at four o ' clock in the morning because they painted Football Rock. They made their get-a- way and hid on Peggy ' s porch. Finally!!! We are the Mighty, Mighty Seniors and after the second day of school had senioritis . . . There was a pretty good food fight between the Senior boys and the Junior boys one day in Cafe B but that was soon stopped. Our Variety show turned out OK but the parties afterwards were best . . . Bumper to bumper traffic . . . and the hopeless search of a place to go. New stars were born — Bob W. and his cute wiggle and Allan H. and his childish ways. We had the first movie stars in our class too, Karl F., Ted K., and Vance M. were on It ' s Academic and represented our school. They did quite a job. So far it ' s been an eventful year and as for the future — Anything Goes. CLASS OFFICERS MARION E. HAILER Beth When skill and love work together, expect a masterpiece. CINDY HARTSTONE Cindy Happy are those who dream dreams and are willing to pay the price to make them come true. The Chapter was named for Miss Anne Cunneen who had given unselfishly of herself to the young people of Scituate for many years. In fact, she was working with pupils while she was seriously ill right up to the time of her death. She was respected and admired by all who knew her, and to name the Chapter for her was a fitting tribute. Students are eligible for membership in the Society in the Junior year with an academic average of 90 in major subjects from the ninth grade to the middle of the twelfth grade. Another opportunity for membership comes after the first semester of the Senior year if the student has an average of 86 for three-and-a-half years. While scholarship is the initial basis for selection, students who qualify are expected to have dem- onstrated leadership, service, and unquestionable character. Thus the four qualities emphasized in the induction service. SCHOLARSHIP CHARACTER LEADERSHIP SERVICE 107 Advisory Council This year five students, one elected from each class together with a member-at- large made up an Advisory Council. The 72-73 Chanterelles are an especially well-balanced group. The membership requirements for the group are not easy, as the girls must sight-read music, and be able to project. The selection of music the girls sing varies from popular tunes like the Carpen- ter ' s Rainy Days and Mon- days to a trilogy of American Folk songs. They also sing in many languages, from Hawai- ian to French. The group has been rated as one of the best ensembles in New England. The twelve girls and accom- panist work hard for their rewards but if you ' ve heard them, it ' s worth it! Chancellors This year the Chancellors have made several appear- ances, including one at the New England Solo and Ensem- ble Auditions Festival in December. The Chancellors sing a wide variety of music; barbershop, Negro Spiritual, and popular. The group is young this year, and is sure to grow and improve. 113 Drama Club National Thespian Society The National Thespian Society is an organization which helps recognize out- standing achievement and contributions in dramatic productions. Membership in this society is based upon the amount of work done either on or behind the stage in promoting dramatic presentations. Set designers, lighting crews, set construc- tors, and the actors on stage are all to be found in the society. It is basically a soci- ety of people concerned with furthering the art of Drama. r The AFS Club works on many diversified fund raising pro- jects throughout the year. Much of the money accumu- lated goes -to help the Scituate Adult AFS Chapter sponsor exchange students. Ingrid Jans- sens from Belgium spent the ' 72-73 academic year in Scitu- ate while Cynthia Ransom spent the summer of ' 72 in Austria. A. F. S. Seniors Underclassmen Senior Girl ' s Booster Club Brotherhood Club Chess Club The purpose of the Chess Club is to supply competition and instruct chess players so that more enjoyment may be acquired and game improve- ment may be accomplished. The Chess Club was revived this year and received an immediate enrollment of about 20 members. It meets on a weekly basis so that inter-club competition may take place. At this time it is also determined which players should be eligi- ble to compete for SHS in the South Shore Interscholastic Chess League. The SSIC divi- sion offers 10 matches both home and away. They occur on consecutive Mondays from mid-December to the first of April. In April, an individual competition begins. Audio Visual Club 119 I CHIMES L. Scott, Jr. Editor; Amy Dale, )r. The Sailors finished off with an impressive 7-2-0 record, sec- ond only to that of the O.C.L. Champs. At the outset of the season, the odds were stacked against Scitu- ate. How could a small . team of Scituate ' s caliber, ever come close to a title, especially with a rookie coach at the helm? Well, it seemed these doubters were right as the Sailors dropped their first game to a strong Whitman-Hanson team, by a score of 6-0. Dis- couraged but not broken, the Sailors bounced back with seven straight victories to lead the league going into a crucial Thanksgiv- ing Day game against a strong Marshfield team. But all hopes were shattered when the final seconds ticked away. Again as in the beginning, the Sailors walked off the field on the short end of a 6-0 game. There were many bright spots during the season, dealing with players, coaches and most of all support. It was evident that sup- port this year more than any other, played a key role in the Sailors success. Never before has there been such enthusiasm throughout the student body. Attendance boomed and the over-all attitudes of every supporter changed. A pride has developed this year which will last for years to come. On behalf of the Senior football players thank you for helping us celebrate a great year. P. Jv oh P. J., We al- most went all the way. We appreciate ya! 132 ...■f: J .
