Our first encounter was kindergarten when Laurie W. and Sue M. were picked up by the police for traipsing through traffic. Snack time for the lucky ones brought fig newtons and ap- pie juice. Wilson B. lost a tooth while being bullied by Leslie F. and friend. lVe befl came full-fledged musicians playing such selections as Swannee River and Bicycle ' Built for Two on our plastic flute-phones. And three stars were born — Wilson on 1 1 violin, Pat on ukele and John M. on live radio. They rated an assembly the next day . . . Mr. King ' s Owl went to the bathroom on Janet R. ' s head. Dave B. and Jeanne D. were involved in a keen competition, they banged their heads against a brick wall to see who had the hardest head. Other recess activities were kickball; where we tried : to sneak over to pet Sheila ' s pony, and snow sculpture. Peter W. took advantage of these recess periods during his love affair with Ann-Marie H., by chasing her around i the playground. The Class of 70 joined the entertainment world in a Talent Show; Don M. was Mitch Miller and John P. sang Tip-toe Through the Tulips. Hawaiian Day at Central School, the Hula Dancers were: Dan G., Lyn R., Kitsy, Heather B., and Dave D., Then Scituate ' s Anniversary celebration, an Indian Pageant. During a war dance Didla stole Kitsy ' s tomahawk. Mrs. Mitchell seated all the lefties in the front row to teach them all a new method of handwriting. Our class was stricken by a few passionate love affairs. Sherry and Jill fought over Joe R. and Julie loved Stafford. John Lopes said that he ' d marry Ellen Young for a penny. In fourth grade all the girls fought over their latest discovery Bob H. Mr. Doyle ' s class tried to grow plants on the cafeteria roof. Dottie got stuck up there. Sixth grade we were suddenly grown up, except for Laurie W. She was STILL wetting her pants. All the grade schools were united. : : yided bet The girl ' s affections were di- tween Mr. Pratt and Mr. Gaul Joe R. and Leslie B. led the class into j ' Tji . . . he kissed her on April Fool ' s Day. Dave B. and his nice knees in his Scottish] kilt at the Open House. Mr. A bell ' s Beatles Valentine ' s Day party was a big hit. Remember the tests? Spell Ohio in Morse code and you passed. And his ever popular version of MacBeth. Sue P. moved in from Hawaii and tried to teach us the Hula. Mrs. Smith took her French classes to a French restaurant. You went hungry if you couldn ' t speak French. And on to the Jr. High — our first year without recess. Going steady was the fash- ion. Marty and Lyn, Wilson and Leslie, Lynda and Dennis, Mark and Karen, Ruthann and Peter, Janice and Joe, Ann and Louie, Abe and the High School boys and Debby even got Dave ' s initial ring. Michelle and Billy were the first and conse- quently were lectured by Mrs. Smith for an hour. Many seemed to have their voca- tions cut out for them: Wilson as a musician in the Fugitives, Cathy H. a scientist working with incubators and chicken eggs, Elin, Leslie and their mothers seemed to be groupies, Debby, Powie, Kris, Linda and Gayle were perfect for Cheerleading, Paula a Girl Scout leader, Didla and Kevin priests, Jeffs stage name would be Ohi- diah Flummery in his singing career, Kim and Kevin S. Olympic jumpers, Judy o disc jockey, Pat R. an honest politician and Sara a star of her own series entitled Gidget . Then it was long bangs, scrub denims, bleeding madras, saddle shoes, En- glish Walkers, granny dresses, penny loafers with dimes and desert boots. But Cathy H. and Wayne S. led the crowd with her go-go boots and his purple pants. In science 76 we learned the value of conservation first hand in our movie ' ' Michael Row the Boat Ashore, produced and directed by Mr Kelly. In Jr. High we had uniforms in gym. The boys were introduced to community showers. Our feet were checked for athletes feet and planter ' s warts. The girls ' ' accident ly hitting tennis balls into the graveyard. Nfi wr indecency tests (what was your rating?) and slam books were confiscated if you weren ' t careful. Leslie, Hunt and Hooker committed the unbelievable crime of skip- ping a class in the Girl ' s Room and caught (naturally) by Mrs. Smith and had to call their parents. Remember the silent lunches in the cafeteria, fights with the table markers and table captains? The after school dances; Mr. Gilarde danced with Miss ; Dacke closer than Mrs. Smith ' s 12 inches. Mrs. White ' s typing class which she re- ferred to as the bumper car class. Jeanne M. fainted from her TB. shot and Cindi O. was the class fiirt. Will you ever forget the day you got the note with the real words to Loui, Loui on it? There were some real good parties: Alice D ' s after the first Student Council dance with the go-go dancers on the dining room chairs. Hacker ' s party at the Yardarm and Judy ' s parties where we wrestled, Freddied, Jerked and watched Sue A. and Tommy L. Did anyone ever see Mr. Olsen ' s toupee fall off? 0n to the High School where our fears turned from Mr. Bordne to Mr. Drinkwa- ter. Gary B. didn ' t last long. His clothing didn ' t pass the dress code on the first day. Our first thought was a means of making the gossip column: Cindi ' s crush on Dave I ., Leslie ' s tomato fight on the football field. Yoga in the Girl ' s Room and Sara, Julie and Debbie were involved in a Cafeteria battle. All the girls envied Abe, Julie and Chris because of their Prom dates but the majority of the girls made it serving iu , u _ YilsQfi and Jimmy C. had to stand for a while with their noses inside two cir- cies on the blackboard, upon Mr. Haley ' s request. Rumor had it that Wilson and Leslie would get married. They were so much in love. Our weekends were spent at Tfadewinds , although we spent much of our time walking to the Harbor or Bish- ops. We usually ended up at Sundown or Peggoty Beach. Remember the Computer dance where many refused to wear their numbers until they saw who they had. X Sophomore yeaw., e were happy to be anything but Freshmen. Mr. C ' s biology class with the 12 go-go microbes and seances on the fire blanket. Ellen Y. chipped Steve G. ' s tooth playing football. Other activities were Dreamwold dances, playing King of the Mountain at the Pitts and parties at Brian ' s field. Bernie ended the year perfectly with his campaign for Pres. by shaking hands with the silent majority. Junior year the Prom was a smash. The Surf was filled with likely prospects, and the show was really good, considering there was only a week of rehearsals. We lost most of our eligible boys to Class of 71. In Feb. the great snowstorms hit and we didn ' t have school for weeks. Bob B. pulled the shower chain and Jon T. Blew up a car. Deb M. skipped school and came back with a police escort. Finally Senior year. We ' ve almost made it. Remember Kitsie ' s vacation parties. Just a small private party. The real Paul M. came out when his coat got caught on the fire alarm. Whitney Woods and World ' s end. For the Sr. Show we rehearsed for 10 days instead of 7. Mrs. Bates pulled us through and it was a success even though Louise ' s balloon didn ' t pop. Could we have made it through the past four years with- out Mrs. West and Mr. Nord? Maybe but we wouldn ' t have emerged Wfth as much a success without their help. n 77 Of 1971 Secretary Mary McCue, President Mark Uppendahl, Vice President Liz Mills, Treasurer Sally Prone 87 Of 1972 89 Freshmen — The Class SCORES Scituate 8 Whitman 14 Scituate 16 Abington 24 Scituate 24 Bridgewater 24 Scituate 16 Silver Lake 6 Scituate 6 Hingham 41 Scituate 21 Randolph 0 Scituate 28 Middleboro 0 Scituate 13 Plymouth 12 Scituate 0 Rockland 7 Football Homecoming — October 11, 1969 Scituate Vs.
