“
. . . oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings Sunward I ' ve climbed, and joined the tumb- ling mirth Of sun-split clouds — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov ' ring there, I ' ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung My self through footless halls of air. Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I ' ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew. And, while with silent, lifting mind I ' ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. Presenting CHIMES 3L 2- 1 In Memoriam Although he passed away shortly after taking office, Dr. Grandy will be remembered with admiration and respect by all who knew him. His memory, perpetu- ated through the Dr. L. Munro Grandy Scholarship Fund, will remain with us through the coming years. 4 Dedication A person with the abihty to make a lasting im- pression upon those he meets is extremely rare. In this respect, we at Scituate High School may consider ourselves indeed fortunate in having knowTi three such people. Miss Brown, Mr. Bur- gess, and Mr. Johnson have earned the lasting gratitude and respect of those vhom they have taught and take with them our sincere good wishes in their retirement. 5 s H S To the Class of 1965: In a few years each of you has lived during; an exciting period in world histor) ' . Since you were born television has become a household fixture. Jet airliners have been projecting people at great speed over the earth. During your high school years spacemen and Telstar have become realities. You may think all inventions of great value are now developed; that the prog- ress of man has reached its apex. I assure you these conclusions are not true. Thousands of young adults graduating this year are the best educated high school students in histor) ' . Collectively, you have traveled farther, read more, and ac- quired deeper knowledge than any prior generation. Your continued success in college and in life will depend not so much on what you know but upon your attitude toward your fellowman and yourself. As in- formation and knowledge have been stored in your minds, we pray, your teachei s and I, that you have fixed love within your hearts to guide the use of your abili- ties and efforts. Sincerely yours. W. A. Shannon Superintendent of Schools MR. MORRELL and MR. HERMANCE MR. PERKINS MR. SMITH and MR. He rapidly be- came the school attraction as his flashing smile created instant friendliness among the students and faculty. Many of us will remember Coky as a high-spirited little character whose broken English, weird facial expres- sions, wide smile, and hilarious pantomines brought many laughs and happy moments to his American friends. Because of this international friendship, Coky has asked to extend his stay at Scituate to finish his high school education. He wants you, the Class of 1965, to know that you have made his visit an experience he ' ll remem- ber and treasure as a highlight of his life. Our deepest thanks to you all. Porter, Mrs. Thompson, Advisor, T. Holleman. Now Joy, be nice, or Phil will get mad. Tammy Tell Me True This year the class of 1965 presented Tammy Tell Me True. This humorous story set in modem-day Mississippi River country tells the tale of a naive, idealistic young river-boat girl, Tammy Tyree, versus a big-town college. Tammy Tyree has to out- maneuver her two-timing boyfriend, the strait-laced Dean of Women at the college, and a fortune hunter with designs on her old aunt ' s millions. In this rather one-sided battle, her only allies are her wily old grandpa, a young professor who cares more about her than he allows her to see, the slightly batty millionaire aunt, and a retired professor who was once president of the college. Superb acting by the cast, reflecting Mrs. Brown ' s admirable coaching, made this play one of the funniest and most suc- cessful productions seen in Scituate. The band, which has grown in number from sixteen to fifty since Mr. Morrill be- came conductor, presented intricate half-time shows at every football game and provided spirited music for the cheerleaders and spectators. The striking uniforms boosted the morale of the students to such an extent that they worked harder than ever and placed second in competition with other class C bands last spring. The band, chorus, Triple Quartet and Chanterelles presented outstanding Christmas and Spring Concerts. The Stage Band provided the vital background for The Guy From Venus and So This Is Paris. The entire Music Department has accepted an invitation to perform at the New- York World ' s Fair on June twenty-seventh of this year. If the enthusiastic response which the Music Department generates continues, this trip will be a grand climax to an exceptional and fun-filled year. 97 Mr. Hermance Director Chorus ROW 1 : C. The Stu- dent Council constantly seeks student opinions and considers all suggestions for improving the school. This year the activities of the council ranged from instituting a social calendar to rewriting the student handbook. Through the combined efforts of the members and our capable advisor, Mrs. Cote, the Student Council has had a successful year. Pres. R. McKeever, V. Pres. D. McClain; Sec. J. MacDon- ald; Treas., T.
