Text from Pages 1 - 152 of the 1964 volume:

Often I think of the beautiful Town that is seated by the sea; Often in thought go up and down The pleasant streets of that Dear old town, And my youth comes back to me. Longfellow As our theme, we have chosen the sea, an integral and moving force in our lives . Long after we have graduated and left Scituate, the tide will still rise and fall . It is with this clear thought of the eternal sea that we leave Scituate High School, hoping that this yearbook will serve as a reminder of our school days and our lives by the sea. The Editors We, the Chimes Staff of 1964, dedicate our yearbook to a most worthy person . Miss Ruth Hawkes has faith- fully aided and guided the all important business staff for many years, and without her help, yearbook production would have been impossible. Gratefully we thank Miss Hawkes for these years of service. DEDICA TION Dr, L, Munro Grandy SUPERINTENDENT SCnUATE PUBLIC SCHOOLS ADMINISTRATION BUILDING CUDWORTH ROAD SCITUATE. MASSACHUSETTS L. Pres. -- R. Raffetto Sec. — J. Tondorf Treas. J. MacDonald The main purpose of a Student Council is to express the opinions of the student body to the administration and to help to regulate student activities . This is an important part of school relations . One of the highlights of the year occurred when Scituate was host to thirty schools at the Southeastern Stu- dent Council Convention on November 7, 1963. As a result of careful preparation and the cooperation of the entire school, the convention was a tremendous suc- cess. Congratulations to our Council ' for a wonderful job. The officers for the 1963-64 year were Roger Cahoon, president; Roger Raffetto, vice-president; Jane Tondorf, secretary, and Joan MacDonald, treas- urer. Mrs. Cote was the able advisor. SCIENCE PROJECTS CLUB Now in its second year, the newly formed Science Projects Club gives students an opportunity to create science projects, in addition to work in school science fairs . The club also enables its members to discuss these projects among themselves and with corresponding clubs in neighboring towns. Mr. Stephen McGrail is the advisor of the club. The only criteria for a prospective member is an interest in the club and a desire to work on a science project. Although young, the club continues to grow and helps to interest our students in the increasing importance of the scientific field. 68 ROW 1 -- J. James, C. Thurston, J. The calendar of the Scituate High Music Department was climaxed with the presentation of a new musical comedy, Get Up and Go, on March 15 and 16, 1963. Under the direction of Mr. Don Hermance, the major roles were aptly played by Tom Holleman, Mary Ann Swiger, Ellen Brown, Roger Cahoon, Kathy Swiger, and Phil Von Iderstein. The event was one of the highlights of the school season, as more than nine hundred people enjoyed the show . Don ' t just sit there, get that BUG off my bed! Bang! Bang! You ' re dead! THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER The Senior Class of 1964 presented the humorous and eventful broadway hit, The Man Who Came To Dinner. Under the direction of Mrs. Beulah Brown, the cast skillfully enacted a trying situation involving a demanding old philanderer, Sheridan Whiteside, excellently played by Roger Cahoon, and the state of chaos into which he forced the home of Mr. and Mrs, Ernest Stanley. Leading the line of colorful characters was Norrine Abbott as Maggie, Whiteside ' s efficient and understanding secretary. Follow- ing along were Blair Holland as movie star Lorraine Sheldon, Jim Robotham as news- paperman Bert Jefferson, Don Marr as playboy Beverly Carlton, Ted Deckel, the mental delinquent Banjo, Pam Nicholson, the unstable Harriet Stanley, and Jerry Howard and Karen Byer as the frustrated Mr. and Mrs, Stanley, The entire cast of talented performers made this year ' s Senior Class Play a tremendous success! THE CLASS OF ' 64 PRESENTS YOUNGER THAN SPRINGTIME Dr. Grandy crowns Suzanne Squizzero Queen of the 1963 Junior-Senior Prom. i The class of 1964 presented the Junior-Senior Prom, Younger Than Springtime, on Friday evening. May 3, 1963. The class had decided that Dreamwold could no longer accommodate Scituate ' s Prom -goers. Thus, for the first time, the big event was held in the high school gymnasium . Approximately one hundred and thirty couples danced amidst multitudes of pastel flowers and soft pink lights . The balmy May weather lent an added charm to an unforgettable evening. SPORTS ..
