Key Club This year the ranks of the Key Club were swelled to a membership of twenty-five, which is the max- imum for a school of our size. The first important activity of the club was the UNICEF drive. Every boy in the organization did his part to make a suc- cess of this project for the relief of needy children in all lands. Also the club sponsored several re- cord hops which were enjoyable and successful fi- nancially. Key Club officers for the year were Lawrence Schiner, president; Frank DeVincentis, vice presi- dent; Richard Meagher, treasurer; and Stephen Young, secretary. Jared Fitzgerald was elected lieutenant-governor of District 11 Key Club. Mr. Elliott Small was again the adviser. Last summer two of our members, Richard Ladd and Ronald Rencunel, attended the National Con- vention in Dallas, Texas, as delegates from the Scituate High School Key Club. Next summer two delegates wUl be sent to the 1957 convention in Washington, D.C. Officers 29

Student Council Officers The Student Council continues as a strong and active organization under the guidance of the faculty adviser, Mr. Stuart Crapser. This fall, copies of the Scituate High School Handbook, which was prepared by the 1955-56 Council, were distributed to students for the first time. One of the biggest projects of the Council for the current year was the purchasing and awarding of jackets to sen- iors who qualified for their letters in athletics. The officers of the Student Council for 1956- 1957 were David Buckley, president; Jared Fitz- Gerald, vice president; Veronica Leone, secretary; and Nancy Oliver, treasurer. The fall convention at Norton, Massachusetts was attended by four senior and two junior delegates. Other representatives attended the spring convention at Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Merito To be eligible for membership in the Pro Merito Society a student must maintain a four- year average of 85% or better in all subjects. The candidates are selected on the basis of scholar- ship and good citizetehip. The aims of Pro Merito are best illustrated by the oath, which all candidates take upon being inducted, As a member of the Pro Merito Society, I will try to give to the world the best that I have. I will try to be Progressive in scholarship Reliant in all duties Observant of beauty Masterful over self Earnest in effort Respectful to others Inspiring in purpose Trustworthy in all things Optimistic in spirit I will do my best to make the most of my op- portunities, to give all that I have acquired back to the world, to help others follow the road of knowledge, and to be in all ways a loval, true member of the Pro Merito Society, 30
