Class Hi tory Our first grade was really something. We had a total of eight different teachers. Each one of them had a different way of teaching. So, we really didn't learn too much. But that was only part of it During the year of l9H5 we had the big blizzard le were out of school for six weeks It is no wonder the teachers think the class of '56 is so mean Seven of the eleven in our class started in the first grade at Republic so that accounts for it Miss Shive was the teacher in the second class We picked up Carole Lombard at this time, and also picked up the marbles that rolled under the door from the fourths grads room That was also the year of catching mice Our room seemed to be full of them The third grade was quite an exciting grade Miss Winters was our teacher. She was pretty good at telling us tales about herself This was also the year for throwing erasers We nasty kids would throw them at her and she would bat them back at us with the paddle One of these erasers was aimed straight for David Bowerman, but of course, he ducked and it got one of the girls There was also the time when the class was lined up in front of the room for a paddling We had been rather naughty Miss Winters gave us the choice of being hit on the knuckles with a ruler or a paddling with a yardstick Janice Mohr was the only smart one She took the yardstick Oh what a year! Not very much happened in the fourth grade Hrs Webster was our teacher This was the year James King came to Republic to Join our class This was the year we played quite if you like the game our fifth grade teacher on St Patr1ck's continued to get into devilment and this of us fall of us'H had nothing else but a bit of cops and robbers It was very exciting- Thie was the time for the birthday party for Day We all wore green for hrs Mary Miller W year we had extra home work for punishment Some homework This was the year Marion Sherman joined the 'chain' gang During the sixth grade we had Mr Shoup for the teacher Oh those years of growing up Sometimes it was rough life Our next great step was up the stairs and into the Junior high Boy did we feel big then! Was that a year of punishment for all of us Standing against the walls and what else Mr Stacy was the seventh grade homeroom teacher This was the year of the lovely eventh and eighth grade banquet It was hard for us to find our way around from class class The Junior high boys won the Junior high basketball tournament this year, and we had a basketball banquet which was also very nice During the eight grade the seventh grade treated us We continued to have some diffi culties in classes with the teachers Now we are in high school Freshman initiation was fun But it was more fun in our senior year being on the giving side rather than the taking side The sophomore class, remember that sign hanging out the library window That also w s the year we began typing class we had a bake sale that year that was the most successful one we had Junior year we got our rings We had the 'Riddle Ve Richesn as the Junior Class Play It was fun to work on the Junior Senior Prom- the them was n'oonl1ght Bgyl pregtiest one 'e've ever had here so the '56 class thinks In the spring of the Junior year the class had to make the first decisions on the yearbook division pages cover design inside cover design and colo It took a lot of work in the senior year to get this fine production rolling The yearbook staff was Editor Carole Lombard Assistant Editor Edith Powell, Business Manager Evelyn Coffman, Advertising Manager David Bowerman, James King, Marion Sherman, Subscription Manager Hon Anble Cordell Miller Class Vditor Janice Mohr Sports Wdltor Gordon Feasel Class Hi Tditor Evelyn Coffman, Publicity Bev Cole 2 1'
