Miss Selina, after a long-ago affair of the hee f has sworn never to have men in her house again. On a rainy evening, her grand-niece befriends man who has been out hunting and is caught thunder storm--thus breaking all precedent all the trouble. Peg falls in love with the young man, aymmg in the and causin: Arabella, the maid-of-all-work, also falls for him, Selina weafu in her determination so far as to allow him to stay all night, a neighboring miser is turdered for his money, Lila, Peg's friend, entertains her visiting bo' friend,in the garage and is locked out ror the night, and the whole village is a riot of gossip, news, atte+ pted lynchings, and bloodhounds hunting for the murde GT. with the aid of the two best newsgathers in cap- tivity, Mrs. Fcathersbee and Mrs. Peaseley, and the efforts of Mary Merkel, the woman detective matters are finally arranged to the satisfaction of all--and especially Peg and Lila--who find the Hlove's young dreamn is something to be thrilled about. The story is unique, in that no man character appears on the stage--although several ere involved in the plot. One gets as close as a whistle outside a window, but the audience never sees him. This is a feature rather than a handicap in e story which has all the elements of melodrama, mystery, and crime and yet remains a clever piece of character study of Ohio types and atmosphere.
