ABSENT: Oneida Smith, Donald Myers, Paula Johnson. Second Grade The second grade is having a reading club which is very popular. The idea was taken from Lois Liski.n's book, Cowboy Small , I-Ii there, boys and girls. Cowboy Small talking. Time for reading club again. We are going to have a rip-snortin' good club this year. Everyone will have a cut- out figure just like me, then after you've read and reported on a book you will have a bright, and 1 mean bright, piece of clothing pasted on the cutout. Every boy and girl in the room is welcome to join the club, all you have to do is read good books that you like, nothing hard about that, Then tell us the story, After you have read ten books, which sure aren't many, I'11 be all dressed up in bright colors. THIRD ROW: Janet Noah, Tommy Brooks, Gloria Stull, John Mc Donald, Alec Brown, John Holskey, Shirley Jones, Donna McKlveen, Billy Phillips, Sally Greer. First Grade The school year of 1950-'51 opened with forty-one children enrolled in the first grade. ln this group there are eighteen boys and twenty-three girls. Twenty of these children are transported by bus. There have been three withdrawls, Peggy Beatty moved to Oklahoma, Tommy Graham to Arizona and Gene Myers to Shadyside, Ohio. Reading, manuscript writing, arithmetic, oral English and music are a part of the first grade daily curriculiim. Mrs. Harrison teaches the music period. The first grade has had a part in two assembly programs this year, the Thanks- giving Program and the Christmas one. The children were very much thrilled with their part in the Christrnas Program. They gave a little play When Santa Sleeps , in which all the class participated. BEST THEATER DR. VORHEIS 58
