Charlie arrives in the village, meets Betty Bronson and prompt- ly falls in love with her. Then to his horrified dismay he finds that Betty owns the Shady Grove Store - the store he has been sent to force out of business. Charlie and Betty are fine leads. Peo- ple laughed at energetic Randy and coy Susie's love affairsg they roared at lazy old Jim Pritchett's attempts to court Mollie Jessop, cook for the Bronsons. They cordially hated old Jarvis Sneed, and took impish little Nell Crundel right to their hearts. Betty Bronson. Susie Crundel, Nell Crundel. . Mollie Jessop. . . Evalina Scroggs. . Charles Atkins. ' Q J unzors The year l950-'51 has not only been a successful but a busy year for the Juniors at Scio High School. ln addition to having concessions at all the football and basketball games, as well as at noon during school, the Juniors participated in band and sports. Also the Juniors sponsored a Halloween Party to raise money for the Junior and Senior Prom which was held in May. We started out the year 1950-'51 with Mr. J. H. Raines as our sponsor, but Mr. Raines went to Kentucky to work and Mr. Howard Shreve, just out of the Navy, became our sponsor. THE SHIP 35 MARIAN KATY RONNII MARY JO SHIKI! Sophomores The Sophomore Class numbered thirty-five students at the beginning of the school year but dropped to thirty-three by the second semester. Three of the new- comers to our class were Sue Chalfant of Jewettg Richard Mclimsey of Zanesville, and Nan Banker of Blackwell, Kansas. Our class has been a well rounded class. The number of students that par- ticipated in the various activities will attest to this statement. In football only one boy participated - James Robinson. In basketball we had Hugh on varsity and James Robinson, Arthur Pfouts and Fred Guthrie on reserve. Each boy has played rather commendable ball. J The band, which is an organization within itself, was served by the following Sophomores: Gala Haines, Nan Banker, Janice Wahl, Roy Mallernee, Shirley Noah, Sue Bowers, Lucy Singhaus and Nancy Busby. Sue Bowers and Shirley Noah were two of the majorettes. This is quite a contribution within itself. Lucy Singhaus served her job as class reporter diligently and she was cap- ably assisted by Sue Bowers and Patsy Peiffer. Our class can claim the tallest and best looking girls in Scio High School without much dispute. The magnanimous spirit of the class has made the class what it is and Scio High School can be assured of some of the best leadership in the uncertain future, 40 !'..f1. , P '41 f 1 , . of ' 44.1 ' Nil' '3BlBer M 1 , L.. By the end of the year they will have reported on six Reading Circle books. Each two weeks twenty books come from the Cadiz Library and are read by the girls and boys. They are interested in their study of geog- raphy, becoming acquainted with the country in which they live. This group enjoyed a very happy Christmas season with its music, Christmas tree, gift exchange, program and they would not forget to mention the radio program they heard each morning for the two weeks preceding Christmas, which came to them from the Stone-Thomas Store in Wheeling. We have found it is an excellent way of creating an interest in music and helps us to discover talent. We have also learned to sing many pretty songs. Besides our regular reading text-books, we read Science Stories, Health Stories, The Boxcar Children and many other library books.
