4 16 THE CAVALIER Class Prophecy One cold winter's night I was sitting by the fireside. Sudden- ly I found myself in a strange country. It was very misty and it took me some time to become accustomed to the light. I heard a soft whirring noise, and to my amazement I saw a man flying toward me. In his arms he carried a large book. Com- ing to earth, in front of me, he gazed at me intently. Finally he spoke, Mortal, consider yourself honored. He paused as if to impress me. He then continued, You have been chosen to see the future. Slowly he opened the ponderous volume, which recorded the future of Scienceville High School's greatest class. In a large office building on Fifth Avenue, New York, Mil- dred Bailey was employed as a private secretary. Carita Baughman, the noted interior decorator, lived on the Riviera. Babe Cover was head matron of all the nurses in the New City Hospital. Frank Ellis, a famous author, was noted for his quiet dignity. Thomas Hamrock Cbetter known as I-Iammie to the class of '29j was playing football at Ohio State. Ora Mae Harry's future was next revealed to my sight. She was the proprietor of a large beauty parlor. ' In a little cottage in California lived another friend. She al- ways said she would be a nurse, but her plans failed. She met the one and only while she was in training. No wonder Anna didn't become a nurse. On the next page I saw a picture of the most eminent Child Physiologist, of course it proved to be Mrs. Richard Hazel CVir- ginia Lloyd.j The next person appeared to be very happy for he had just married. This person was Joe Lukac, the great financier.

THE CAVALIER 17 Great was my relief and amazement on turning the page to find thereon the future of my old side-kick. Lil was reported engaged to a famous football star. Supervising the construction of a bridge over the Atlantic Ocean was Ralph Muter. Jesse Nesbitt was the inventor of a new type motor. He devoted most of his time to organizing Hi-Y Clubs among the In- dians. In a home for the broken-hearted Bill Noble was pining away. On the eve of their wedding, Virginia had deserted him. Mary Pallay was an industrious school teacher, as I expected. Margaret Pellin was the best stenographer in Paul Snyder's meat-packing office. Florence Playforth was happily married to Peanuts the barber. The next page revealed Mary Slipkasky as education di- rector at East Tech, Cleveland. Her husband had divorced her after she had hit him over the head with a dumb-bell. The minister at the Little Church Around the Corner was Frances Steele. She had just finished marrying Ruth Stevens to a mysterious stranger. Frank Thomas was a Commercial Geography teacher. He must have forgotten how he acted in '29 for he would not tolerate anyone who put their feet in the aisle. On the following page I learned that Captain Floyd B, Welk of the U, S. Army, had broken the world's altitude record. The book was closed. The man vanished. I came to with a start to find myself before the fireplace. ak if fa wk 4: wk Mr. Boyd: How much are those grapefruit? Clerk: Twelve cents each. Mr. Boyd: Two for a quarter? Clerk: Yes. Mr. Boyd: I'll take two.
