But of this we are certain, our Alma Ivlater will be one of our most pleasant recollections. May we give a toast to our school, the one of which we are an inseparable part! May it have the pleasure of graduating many more fine classes! To the school board and Dr. Richeson, we express our most sincere appreciation for the privilege of receiving our education and we shall endeavor to make the best possible use of it. And here's to the faculty! Dear friends, we cannot leave you without thanking you for the inspiration which you have given us, We know that you represent the noble side of life and may you always go onward and upward. Much success to you! To the Alumni, we ask that we may be welcomed into their organization and may our class add distinction to it. Juniors, permit us to warn you of the place which you will hold next year. Fill it with dignity and when you reach the end of your journey, may you receive much esteem. To the rest of the school, we extend our best wishes for suc- cess. We are certain that you will enjoy the remainder of your high school course if you make your aim high and then hold to your aim. Classmates, we are about to sever from each other but may we all hold in esteem the friendships that we have made. And may we be: As those who are standing on a mountain height, Look backward o'er the path so lately trod, Think only of the joys that would not last, But vanished like the waves upon the shores, Forgotten in each irksome task and rule, And pleasant memories linger round our school. 8 THE CAVALIER c-Annual Stag' Editor-in-Chief . . , . ..... . . . In witness whereof, We the Class of 1929 have set our hands and seal this seventeenth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-nine. The Senior Class '29. 4 16 THE CAVALIER Class Prophecy One cold winter's night I was sitting by the fireside. Sudden- ly I found myself in a strange country. It was very misty and it took me some time to become accustomed to the light. I heard a soft whirring noise, and to my amazement I saw a man flying toward me. In his arms he carried a large book. Com- ing to earth, in front of me, he gazed at me intently. Finally he spoke, Mortal, consider yourself honored. He paused as if to impress me. He then continued, You have been chosen to see the future. Slowly he opened the ponderous volume, which recorded the future of Scienceville High School's greatest class. In a large office building on Fifth Avenue, New York, Mil- dred Bailey was employed as a private secretary. Carita Baughman, the noted interior decorator, lived on the Riviera. Babe Cover was head matron of all the nurses in the New City Hospital. Frank Ellis, a famous author, was noted for his quiet dignity. Thomas Hamrock Cbetter known as I-Iammie to the class of '29j was playing football at Ohio State. Ora Mae Harry's future was next revealed to my sight. She was the proprietor of a large beauty parlor. ' In a little cottage in California lived another friend. She al- ways said she would be a nurse, but her plans failed. She met the one and only while she was in training. No wonder Anna didn't become a nurse. On the next page I saw a picture of the most eminent Child Physiologist, of course it proved to be Mrs. Richard Hazel CVir- ginia Lloyd.j The next person appeared to be very happy for he had just married. This person was Joe Lukac, the great financier. THE CAVALIER 17 Great was my relief and amazement on turning the page to find thereon the future of my old side-kick. Lil was reported engaged to a famous football star. Supervising the construction of a bridge over the Atlantic Ocean was Ralph Muter. Jesse Nesbitt was the inventor of a new type motor. He devoted most of his time to organizing Hi-Y Clubs among the In- dians. In a home for the broken-hearted Bill Noble was pining away. On the eve of their wedding, Virginia had deserted him. Mary Pallay was an industrious school teacher, as I expected. Margaret Pellin was the best stenographer in Paul Snyder's meat-packing office. Florence Playforth was happily married to Peanuts the barber. The next page revealed Mary Slipkasky as education di- rector at East Tech, Cleveland. Her husband had divorced her after she had hit him over the head with a dumb-bell. The minister at the Little Church Around the Corner was Frances Steele. She had just finished marrying Ruth Stevens to a mysterious stranger. Frank Thomas was a Commercial Geography teacher. He must have forgotten how he acted in '29 for he would not tolerate anyone who put their feet in the aisle. On the following page I learned that Captain Floyd B, Welk of the U, S. Army, had broken the world's altitude record. The book was closed. The man vanished. I came to with a start to find myself before the fireplace. ak if fa wk 4: wk Mr. Boyd: How much are those grapefruit? Clerk: Twelve cents each. Mr. Boyd: Two for a quarter? Clerk: Yes. We promise, if fate so wills it, to make as many improvements on the past actions of the Seniors, whether good or bad, so that the history of the Senior class of 1930 may be as clean and un- blemished as that of the Senior class of l929. Betsy Hartwell. PF PF PK Ik FF if Recognition Does the person behind the scenes get due credit? No! If the play or operetta is a success the actors receive the entire credit. We forget that the ultimate production has been very largely due to the work of the directors. They not only graciously give their time to the coaching of the play, but they must worry about finding stage material, costumes, and the Working out of many other details. This Annual takes this opportunity to thank Miss Emma Jones, who has so cheerfully assumed the responsibility of direct- ing and managing the plays that have been given in the High School. Especially does the Junior Class express their appreciation for her untiring efforts in producing Cyclone Sally and Watch Your Step Wilton. Many thanks must also be given to Mr. Richards for the splendid Operettas and other Musical entertainment produced un- der his direction. The entire credit for the organization of the Orchestra and Band and their appearance at the majority of our school functions is deserved by Mr. Richards. mmorgnlaaflom BAND ORCHESTRA AND THE CAVALIER H I-Y CLUB BIOLOGY CLUB GIRLS GLEE CLUB BOYS GLEE CLUB 24 THE CAVALIER Miss Golda Cotterman 7,,,,,, Miss Catherine Jones ,,,. Since the close of basketball season, a number of the boys have been out for practice each evening. If they continue to improve in their work, the following boys show promise of developing a very successful team: Harold Bartram, Bill Noble and Frank Thomas show up well in the pit events. Earl Warne and Frank Fabrizio toss the shot put. Mike Mesaros does the sprinting and Joe Arnaut and Frank Wylam run the half mile and mile respectively. William Noble, a member of our class, throws the discus. Our schedule for this season includes several triangular meets. On April 26th we shall compete with Leavittsburg and Braceville at Leavittsburg. The next week we shall redeem past athletic de- feats in 'a meet with Canfield and Hubbard at Canfield. May ll we go to Hubbard to meet Hubbard and Brookfield. 28 THE CAVALIER Basketball Report Our basketball team has just completed a very successful sea- son. Although the schedule included some tough games, the boys lost but three games from thirteen played, during the season. We also made a very good showing at the N. E. Tournament. We won our first two games with Geneva and the undefeated Newton Falls team. We were eliminated by Canfield in our third game after having beaten them twice during the season. We placed two men on the all-tournament team--Joe Arnaut, our flashy captain on the first team, and Steve Lubonivic, guard, on the second team. We shall feel the loss of Thomas, center and Noble, forward, whom we lose by graduation. However, with Arnaut, Lubonivic, Vetacula, Warne, Bartram and several other experienced players back, Coach Boyd will have plenty of promising material from which to choose a quintette.
