SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL NEWARK, NEW JERSEY SYNERGIST 1985 w ■■■ All work is as seed sown; it grows and spreads and sows itself anew. 3 m The Science High School yearbook is called the Synergist for a very important reason. The book is a reflection of the interaction between the faculty and the students. It portrays the synergism or joint action of teachers and pupils directed toward an important goal: graduation. All members of Science High affect each other. But we. the Class of 1985, are now the full recipients of four years of cooperation, four years of synergism. We are now unified as a graduating class. The 1985 Synergist is our book of memories. The fervent energy that has been cultivated within us is now ready to be released and incorporated into our lives. 6 All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players. William Shakespeare 6 We must all be like the sun and shine just as bright, for we are the future and the future is within us. 9 MILTON GAYLORD — CLASS ADVISOR CARRIE BROOKS — CLASS ADVISOR Mrs. Brooks. Mr. Gaylord, and Mr. Juarbe. you have helped us make many important decisions this past year. You have given us determination and a realization of just how important this year really is. The three of you have been not only our counselor and advisors but also our dear friends. Without you we wouldn't have had the courage, the patience, the determination, and the pride to work toward our goals and to make the best of our lives. We say. Thank you. for everything you have done. The Class of '85 ANGEL JUARBE — GUIDANCE COUNSELOR 11 FACULTY Administration Pat A. Restaino Principal Rutgers University, B.S.; M.Ed. Mr. Micah, and their biology and ecology classes traveled to Sandy Hook to examine the ecology of the shore. They observed the plant and animal life, the effects of man on the area, and the physical aspect of the shore area. Walking along the beach, they picked up specimens for identification. They seined, that is. used a large weighted fish net to collect samples of marine life. The purpose of the field trip was to enable the students to appreciate the shore environment. Judging from their response, they came away with a strong sense of responsibility to maintain the delicate balance between nature and humans. 58 59 Seniors — 22 Juniors — 21 One of the most hair-raising Science High intramural games ever played at the Y” was this year’s Jr.-Sr. basketball game. The halftime score of 11-4, in favor of the Juniors, was no indication of the excitement to come in the second half. With the Juniors still leading 18-12 at the end of the 3rd quarter, the Seniors came roaring back! Led by Dwayne Williams' 6 fourth quarter points and Frank Asante’s 4 points, the Seniors took the lead and won this hotly contested intramural tradition 22-21. Way to go. Seniors! 60 Senior Bum Day October 26, 1984 Although the term Bum Day usually has a negative meaning, at Science High it means something quite the opposite. It is a Senior dress down day. It is a day for fun and humor. What outfits we saw that day! Bums walked the halls of Science High. Outlandish hairdos and funny footwear brightened the corridors. And at the end of the day, we all said, A good day was had by all. Long may the tradition live! 61 Academic Top Ten a 1 Wendy Leggett «3 Nathan Jose 02 Rusty Yuson 62 84 Sean Faulk 85 Cathy So be 86 Elizabeth Malave s6 Augustin Arroyo s 8 Pamela Taylor 63 CONGRATULATIONS! 64 RAESHAN ALLEN Doosky Raeshan is a Capricorn. The start of the initial Science High's Boys' Basketball season was a roaring success. As the season progressed, however, Coach Gaylord's players realized that they had a great deal of work to do to make this first-ever basketball team a cohesive unit, capable of playing with the more established teams in the state.
