To be graduated from high school is but one mile- stone along the journey of life. Particularly, this axiom is true in the 'Sputnik Agef' It would be proper for each graduating senior to re- flect a moment - to recall memories as a pupil in the elementary school during the first. formative years of pub- lic school instruction. In the primary grades. you learned the basic funda- mentals of reading. writing and arithmetic. You shared in the elementary areas of the Hsocial-living', program through experiences in art. science. music and the like. In the intermediate grades. while studying social studies, you experienced an awareness of the peoples comprising the world we live in. You learned fractions and decimals in arithmetic. Year hy year. as you progressed through the elementary grades. you anticipated Unext-yearisn teach- er: always Nthe teacher was the most intimate part of your learning experience. Now that you have reached the threshold of manhood and womanhood. it is important also to reflect on the role of the teacher in your life. Be your memories of the teacher great or small. they are. nevertheless, far-reaching and significant. When you marry and hegin to assume the responsi- hilities of parenthood. then and only then. will the reali- zation of the real meaning of an adequate education. as we know it in the linited States of America. hecome ev- ident. After such reflection. it must he said. without your participation in the elementary school curriculum there could he no 'graduating'. The faculty uf the f-lt-me-ntary schools joins me in wishing you mur-h happiness and success in your strivings' toward maturity.
