SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We, the class of 1940, started on a tour year journey to graduation with 146 members. Our Freshmen advisers were Miss Fredericks, Miss Reinhart, Mr. Harner, and Mr. Stauffer. We were all looking forward to the day when we could use the new addition to the school. The class officers were President, William Homan, Vice-President, William Gray, Secre- tary, Peggy Detweiler, Treasurer, lean Hamer. During our Sophomore year we were guided by Miss Heim, Miss Reinhart, Mr. Imboden, and Mr. Kerschner. Fire!! On December 5, 1937, the school was partially destroyed by fire. We were destined to continue on our journey with a handicap for a year and a half. The class officers were President, Fred Deibert, Vice-President, Iohn Iones, Secretary, Mary Catherine Gray, Treasurer, Peggy Detweiler. When we returned as Iuniors, our advisers were Miss Heim, Miss Hoy, and Mr. Shank. The class officers were, President, Fred Deibert, Vice-President, Russel Schwenk, Secretary, lean Hamer, Treasurer, Mary Catherine Gray. Next came the Iunior Prom. Music by the Hi-Hatters, evening gowns, and a beautifully decorated hall, with music as the central theme, are memories oi this gala event. May Day, with Mary Zimmerman officiating as our pretty queen, was next. On our last mile toward our destination we had the advice of Mr. Berger, Mr. Brown, and Miss Heim. ,Excitement reigned for several days because there were so many interesting im- provements in the modern, new building. We felt honored to be able to start as Seniors in such beautiful surroundings. The class was represented in several activities. Peggy Detweiler was editor of the Haven Fax, Fred Deibert was captain of a champion football team, and Russel Schwenk captained the basketball team. The Seniors won the interclass basketball championship. ,The Senior Play, a comedy called Growing Pains, was a gratifying success. The cast was Kathryn Luckenbill, William Long fsubstituted for Fred Deibertl Iohn Iones, Norma Kemble, Mary Zimmerman, William Homan, Harvey Haddad, Alice Schwenk, Peggy Detweiler, Marjorie Phillips, Harriet Quinter, Emily Gehrig, lean Harner, Charles Deibler, lack DeWitt, Gerald Berger, William Aulenback, and Helen Iessick. Did we have fun? Ask any Senior who went on the Washington trip-a trip looked forward to by every class. Then our annual made its debut. The persons who devoted much of their time to making the Blue and Gold a success, deserve credit for a very fine job. Our last school days came all too quickly-Baccalaureate, Class Night, and finally Commencement with an outstanding pageant. We have completed one phase of our lives, but memories-annual Hallowe'en parties, other class and social activities, will be our cherished heritage of school days. -Norma Kemble
