CLASS OF 1953 8 Dr. Paul S. Christman l ANOTHER VOLUME of the Blue E3 Gold takes its place with the thirty preceding ones. The class of 1953 merits high Commendation for giving time and effort to thus record the school's history for the year. As you leave the free public schools, remember that nowhere in the world is youth privileged to experience such educational opportunities as in the United States. Loyalty to country and its institutions is expected of all citizens. As the future responsibilities of citizenship claim your interest, we trust you will give generous support and devotion to your Alma Mater. Best wishes to the class of 1953 as the members choose their vocational pursuits in America Unlimited . , -l-'F DR, PAUL S, CHRISTMAN ,VT i'. Hartranft GREETINGS AND coop WISHES to each member of the class of 1953 as you are about to pass on to the next phase in your life. Life's greater responsibilities are just ahead of you. I hope that your experiences thus far will help you to face the future. Here in high school you lived largely to learn: now it will be principally your responsibility to learn to live. Display that courage, determination, and character which we hope all of you have developed and which is so essential now that you are about to graduate. Work for peace, which is so necessary in the world today. May success and Gods blessing be with each of you. PAUL E. I-IARTRANFT High School Principal 9 .. The ship of life sails on, whate'er may fall We cannot tell what destiny awaits, But we shall sail unto our port of call. As we look back upon our log of past days, Our Haven High stands out in letters gold. To teachers all who helped us gain our goals, May life give them the best that it can hold. To friends we've known and cherished all thru high school. Those last goodbyes we really do regret. But those good times, those friends and teachers true And Haven High - we never will forget. A friendly disposition along with strong traits of character made her a friend of all. She was an active member of the Girl Scouts and a member of the Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir and was a leader in the youth organizations of the church. Catherine. better known to her friends and classmates as Kitty Ann, was first taken ill in 1947. She was then tutored for two years, after which she joined her classmates in ninth grade. In the two months she was with this class, she made many new friends and her sympathetic and understanding nature made her a classmate loved by all. Her one main ambition in life was to return to school and graduate with her classmates. This ambition was never to be realized for on November ll, 1949, Kitty Ann died of rheumatic fever. Although she has passed from among us, she will be with us in our hearts and minds as we attend our graduation exercises and on through our life's work. SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies: And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress. Or softly lightens o'er her face: Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling place. And on that cheek, and o'er that brow, So soft, so calm, get eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent! 35 Log of the Class of '53 September 8, 1950 Set sail upon this new adventure with a crew of 111 sophomores. Iames Keith. cap- tain of the ship, also co-captained the basket- ball team along with Charles Croneberger. Robert Moyer and Iames Bohrman led our football team to its many victories.
