Gary Bullard And {Joe Coffin mswess mabaqsK: ffoanne semycsnvjccs SCjHOOC scHuyceKvjccs MU' VOKK He has not only filled the exigencies of teaching with an adroitness that can only come from a dedication to the principles of education, but he has infused in his stu- dents his own idealism, while carefully avoiding inculcating his beliefs. He has at- tempted to give to his students a realistic perspective, a sense of priorities that transcends the subject material. He has stripped away the false values that cloud judgement and obscure fact. It is with app-eciation of the concern he has shown for us that we, the Class of Sixty-eight, dedicate our yearbook to Mr. C. R. Jordan. 2 4 6 L S3[2 3D0S U0M3S Q1KCS' CSADSKSMJP ASSOCJA ZJOtf PSP 10 CJKKAKV COW SZUDSMZ COUMCJjC ii WZt'KM ZJOMM COW MSWSPAPSK yOKKSKS SKJ emu 13 SSMJOK BAND PSP PAV'D 14 S6JWK CHORUS CHAHSOm ZZtS 15 We, the officers of the Class of 1968, wish to express our deepest gratitude to our esteemed classmates for their cooperation and assistance in carrying out our functions successfully. We are proud to have served the Class this past year and to have taken part in the many memorable events of our high school years. 16 “SCMliyCSK” SZAB APPK8CU In compiling this yearbook, we have tried to capture just a moment of life here at Schuylervillc, to freeze a glimpse of our educational sojourn. While working within the traditional framework, we have tried to make this year- book just a little more human, a bit less glossed over than is the icual case. We wish to extend our thanks to the cadre of people who really put the book to- gether: Buck Boivin (sports), Linda Forbes (elementary), Martha Gilmore (faculty), Wm. Johanson (prophecy), Joy Jordan (directory), Charles Lloyd (sports), Susan Me era (elementary), Maureen Nolte (baby pictures), Marion Stine (title page, music, directory), and Joanne Willette (Business Manager). We also wish to thank Mr. George Bolster, who took almost all the pictures, and Mr. William MacAlpine, representative of our publisher, the American Yearbook Company. And we wish to proffer our especial thanks to Mr. William Meyers, Advisor to the Yearbook Staff, without whose superhuman efforts this yearbook would not have been possible. 18 FIRST ROW--S. Mr. Alexander Adamson Mr. Frank Walsh Mr. John Rieger OUR PRmVPM’S MSS SMS To the Class ol' 1968: Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by, and that made all the difference. These words by the immortal Robert Frost are worthy of your most serious consideration. As you graduate from Schuylerville Central School, the roads WILL diverge. Have the courage to take the one less traveled of leadership, hard work and rewarding success that will make all the difference. However, you should be forewarned that the higher you climb the ladder of success, the more you will re- ceivethe unfair criticism of those too lazy to work for these goals. These are but the cries of unsuccessful and unhappy people who believe they can improve their hapless lot by demeaning you and your success. You should not share their guilt nor should you gain an advantage at the expense of someone else's character or good name. There is nothing more lethal than the poisonous, slanderous defamation of your fellow man. In high school, bigotry and smallness have had little place in your life as you have accepted people for what they are. Continue to live this type of life because there is nothing more gratifying than helping others and nothing less rewarding than realizing you have hurt someone. Your parents are filled with pride and joy on your graduation. May you continue to make them proud and happy. Your success is their success; your happiness, their hap- piness; your welfare, their concern because your parents are your best friends. Con- fide in them and seek and follow their help and Counsel. Members of the Board of Education, the teachers and other school personnel join me in wishing you a most successful and happy life. The school and office doors will always be open to you for a friendly visit or any help we mav be able to give you, so please come in to see us occasionally. Sincerely. , QIj John D. THE CLASS OF NINETEEN SIXTY-EIGHT 101 PKOpMsey While sitting in American History class one day Mr. Jordan, our most dedicated teacher, mentioned something about our futures . My mind wandered ... I saw my- self leaving the White House. A messenger hurried up to me and exclaimed Mr. Presi- dent, there will be a reunion of the Class of '68 at the Old Saratoga Inn next Friday. The days seemed to drag on and on until, late Thursday evening, I finally boarded Air Force One for the trip to Schuylerville. State troopers Ken Billings, Tom Boyce, and James DeFoe (with the help of die local law enforcement agency), halted my mo- torcade for running a red light. But, upon discovering who I was, escorted me to the Inn. I was greeted at the door by Lt. Col. Adrian Clute (in charge of the Army's cavalry divisions). Capt. Ronald DeVoe and Rear Admiral Alan Ernst greeted the Presidential Party at the door, and soon engaged us in a heated discussion on world affairs. The ar- gument (as it soon turned out to be) was soon joined by my Chief Advisor on World Af- fairs (who was late because he arrived on horseback) Lt. Joseph Basketball, Esq. Capt. DeVoe broke this up, however, by telling us that the editor of the DAILY NEWS, Buck Boivin, was taking notes. I greeted my old friend, and asked him if he knew where the music was coming from. He told me that there was live entertainment in the backroom. We went back, and on stage was the now famous classical guitarist, Tony Petralia, accompanied on bongos by hippie folk singer Joe Coffin. They had just returned from a stunning engagement at the world famous night spot Sherman's Rest in New Orleans. John told me he was going to branch out and establish a chain of nightclubs throughout the country. He also told me there was a high-stakes poker game going on in the attic. Joker Salley, the millionaire playboy, was dealing, and losing heavily. Hummer Myers, now an IBM computer programmer, was staying about even. The big winner was the always poker-faced Dan Arnold, a drifter, who seemed to have found the key to the game. I asked Salley what kind of poker they were playing. He said Stud, of course. I then went downstairs to find everyone dancing. I asked Alice Arnold, first female editor of the NEW YORK TIMES, if she would like to dance. We were reminiscing about old times and I was glancing around to sec if I could recogni e any couples. Alice pointed out Gary Bullard and Barbara Keen, medical technologist and nurse, respec- tively. When I went off to the bar I found Noel Crandall and Bill DeVoe, commercial artists, celebrating with Joe Mayer, another artist (free lance) and Dave Cook, presi- dent of a large art materials firm. Finding a stool, I sat down next to Burt Luongo, who works in a paper mill in which he is half-owner. On my right was Sid Mezera, just in from Chicago. Sid is personal aide to publisher Hugh Hefner now, and looks none the worse for the years. I ordered drinks for the bar but Patrick Body Sullivan, owner-operator of the Inn, told me all they had left was Vodka Punch. I asked Sid why his sister wasn't there. He told me she was married and had ten kids and thus found it impossible to get away. Eliot Matson, a medical technologist, told me IBM specialists Linda Nacy and Lillian Van Tassel were working near me in Washington. I ran into Martha Gilmore (who had just finished ten years of college and graduated with a Ph. D. and a M. D. at the top of her class at R. P. I.) and she told me she was now employed by the Village as a sanita- 102 lion engineer. I asked how many missed the reunion. She told me that Michelle Vines and Mary Ann Venn were nurses in the Peace Corps in Africa. Another group of girls was working as nurses in theRedCross in Vietnam: Pat Cessler, Joy Jordan, Doris Ram- sey, Donna Squires, and Sylvia Barton. Also in Vietnam (with the Bob Hope Tour) were Wi zy Heighton. the nation's top female vocalist, and her private nurse, Joanne Wil- lette. Linda Forbes was at a South American hospital treating beri-beri victims. I no- ticed that Vicki Varney, an airline stewardess, was there. Soon she joined the conver- sation which, inevitably, came round to Peggy Zerwick. I was quite surprised to find that she and Carol Barrett worked as physical education teachers at Schuylervillc High. Walking about the smoke filled room, I discovered two expert auto mechanics, George Yurcik and James Weils, arguing about the vehicle Allan Weils drove when he broke the land speed record. Soon Bob Tucker, John Barber, John Doran, George Priest, and Diesel Wells (all expert mechanics in their own right) were in the thick of the argument. I left to look for something to eat . . . Just in time truck driver Frank Van Etten drove up with a truckload of kegs and boxes of food. George Candy Hanson, Aeronautical Engineer at NASA, stumbled out to help bring in the kegs. I asked computer programmer Tim Booth why they needed a whole truckload of supplies, and he told me the provisions had to last four days, and the food did too. A four day party was certainly typical of our class, but only one truckload of provisions ? More guests were arriving now. In came Sylvia Peck, Christian Education Director, Secretaries Linda Pechettc, Ronalee Lang, Brenda Defoe, Carol Richardson, Linda Schroll, Marion Stine, Susan Villa, and Janice Bean. Now arriving were two famous architects: Frank Yakubcc and Eric Biss. Charles Lloyd was greeted at the door by his Senior Ball date Anita Defore, who is presently employed by me as a receptionist. Chuck is a math professor in a high school in Ohio. Next came the employees of inte- rior decorating firms: John Baldwin, Mary Joan Carey, and Kathy Hanehan. Then in came some unknown celebrities: Jean Evans, anthropologist; Roger Rouleau, brain sur- geon; Paul Russel, another brain surgeon; Maureen Nolte, secret agent; Linda Ristau, model; Thomas Plummer, America's top engineer; George Christian, social worker in the ghettos of New York; and Tim Lagoe, a fireman. I asked Dick Burke, an elementary art teacher, if he knew what had happened to Joe Cichacki. He said that he had gone into agricultural research and was working with conservationist Dave Edwards. Scott Tingley, a veterinarian, told me that Paul Koval was the owner and manager of a big beauty salon in New York City, and that in his employwere two excellent beauticians: Karen Simmons and Ann Lavigna. 1 then spotted some classmates talking over old times. They were John Nolan, an elementary school teacher, and Ann Marie Peters, a dental hygenist. I started walking over and . . . William! William! Er, uh . . . yes, Mr. Jordan? How about day dreaming about American History? 103 sew ok DweczoKy ALICE ARNOLD Vice President--4; Jr. Honor Society-- 1,2; Sr. Honor Society--3, 4; Band --1, 2,3,4; All County Orchestra- - 1,2,3; Jr. Service--1; Sr. Service--3, 4; Ski Club --1,2, 3, 4; C.
